Were you thinking 'is Kobe trying to prove a point?' when he was 8-12 from the field midway through the 4th and the Lakers were up? Yeah, he failed to take over in the last four minutes - partly because they were trying to exploit the perceived Odom-Peja mismatch, partly because he's not a consistent closer anymore - but I didn't sense any disinterest from him.
And it's important to note that the Mavs aren't playing him the same as they played him in game 1 and through 3 quarters of game 2. They're giving him a lot more attention and forcing other guys to make shots.

I agree with this. Kobe needed to take over in the fourth. To Phil- activate Kobe in the fourth!!!!!chefy wrote:I blame the lost on Kobe and Phil.
the last two errors by Kobe cost us the game.
the ball was in his hands way too long. and it resulted in two bad shot attempts.
I blame Phil for not making the Lakers stay on the 3 point shooters.
Dirk is just automatic right now period.
you do not double him and leave Stojakovic, Terry, Kidd wide open. Dirk always make the right passes, he'll find the open man.

Re: Is Kobe Trying To Prove a Point?
I don't think he's trying to make any kind of point. Not at all. He's just not good enough any more to consistently and thoroughly dominate games anymore.
Like what Rose did to the Hawks last night. I'd be very surprised if you ever saw that kind of volume, on that kind of efficiency, from him in a big playoff game ever again.
It's the nature of getting old, and having to rely more and more on your jump shot. It's very, very hard to dominate consistently from the perimeter.

I thought we had this one. I thought we had game 1. We look soft like the old Mavs and the Mavs look like the old Lakers. I was hoping Cuban would start distracting his team by now but even he isn't going there. The Mavs are 99% going to the Finals and the Heat are probably going to win it all.
This hurts. I'm still hoping for a Red Socks comeback but it has never been done in basketball and after the Mavs collapses in the past, I think they have learned to not let it happen again.
Stop reading when you said Gasol.

I have to say - offensively, they were great. Their length and lower mobility killed us rotating on the perimeter, though.
Still, in the future I would like to see this team founded on Odom at PG, Kobe at SF and Bynum at C.

Re: Is Kobe Trying To Prove a Point?
hahaha gotta love the BSPN parrots..
half of the people blaming kobe for not taking over the game put the blame on him in the first game when he had a great offensive game.
Unfortunetely Gasol didn't respond in the 2nd game so they were left without excuses....
I said in that thread that kobe had to takeover because gasoft (our 2nd option) was sucking big time, but nah, the blame is on Kobe... He's too selfish! Gasol wanted the ball!!!
Then Kobe played a facilitator role yesterday and could have got 10+ assists if not for our guys missing easy shots and Lakers still lost..
Odom played well, Bynum played very well and Kobe was having a great game and doing exactly what the parrots said he needed to do but the team lost again... What the Parrots do? They contradict themselves instead of just admitting they were plain WRONG.
Gasol almost cost us the first round and he's costing us the 2nd round. simple as **** that.
Anyway, fisher needs to retire and we need a real coach next year. Shaw wont cut it.

I don't think Kobe is doing anything like that. Imo game 3 was his best of the series, he was ultra efficient and helped get Bynum going. Then at the end he took a lot more shots with Bynum off the floor and he nailed pretty much everything.
It wasn't until the last possessions that you guys started going to Odom to try to exploit Peja, and tbh it scared the crap out of me. That turnover was awful, but I think Odom would have had better odds to score a point against Peja than Kobe would have had against Marion.

Re: Is Kobe Trying To Prove a Point?
i expect all the kobe is done or blame it on kobe talk from other fans but our own should know better. he just put up 36 on almost 50% shooting in game 1. as soon as he did that everyone was crying about how he needs to shoot between 15-20 shots on great % while getting 6 or 7 dimes because that's when we are at our best. well he did that and we still lost, because our second best player is not producing properly! it's not all pau's fault but just like kobe in 04' his inability to do what we need him to do is mainly responsible for us losing.
Only on realgm is 27,000 points, 5 rings, 1 rs mvp and 2 finals mvp considered overrated!

magic1fan you are right. This kobe thread is my fault because I was so pissed, and not even at him really. Just mad we lost. Unfortuanatly theres nothing I can do now but yeah, Im usually on the other side of this argument for kobe. Im not apart of the he can never do anything right crowd. Those people discuss me. unfortunately I came off sounding like that. My bad. I wish I could delete this thread.

didn't read the OP, but i thought kobe played a great game. hope he plays like that again. only point i'd imagine he was trying to make is that he'll do anything to win, including feed the post cause that's where the advantage is.
