Andrew Bynum says Lakers 'need to come back .. ready to win'
Question: You've had time to reflect on last season; what are your thoughts?
Answer: We got embarrassed and we all need to come back focused, ready to win. You lose 4-0, there's not much more to be said. I was the first one to admit we didn't work hard enough to win. Let's tell the truth. It was due to a myriad of reasons — our collective drive and determination. It's about being accountable. Me included. Everyone included.
Q: You started working out at Freddie Roach's Wild Card Boxing Club a few weeks ago. Why?
A: I wanted to get more confident in my hands and get in shape.… I stumbled across Amir and saw Alex was training him, and once I saw the stuff they were doing, I wanted to do it too. I got so much better in just one week, I wanted to continue. Running stairs, swimming, upper-body weightlifting, track work. Because of my [previously injured] knees, I'm keeping pressure off them rather than loading up the squat rack with weights. It's remarkable. I'm still 285 [pounds], but the body fat is gone and what Alex calls functional muscle is stronger.
Q: It was surprising to hear you're not just boxing and working out but enrolled in Spanish and piano classes this summer too. Are you making up for what you were deprived of by missing college?
A: My brother's wife is Colombian, so now we have mixed cultures in my family. Plus, I live in L.A., I want to communicate with people. The piano, I started to play when I was a little kid, and now I have a really good teacher at UCLA. I play by reading chords in a composition style. I take two-hour lessons three times a week. It's something that makes me happy. It's calming, it changes my mood. It'll be good; down the road I can play my girlfriend's song when she becomes my wife.
Q: What happened in that parking incident at the grocery store?
A: I'm not talking about that.

Re: Q&A Session With Andrew Bynum
off topic- so if the NBA cancels next season would Bynum still be suspended 5 games the season after next? technically the owners cancelled the games he would have been suspended for, so what is the protocol here?

Re: Q&A Session With Andrew Bynum
I think the suspension rules are that he will be suspended for the next 5 "Eligible" games, so it will most likely carry over. If a player was injured, he would be suspended after he recovers.

Re: Q&A Session With Andrew Bynum
that's what I'm saying, Bynum will be "eligible" because it is an owners lockout and not a players strike.

Re: Q&A Session With Andrew Bynum
As mentioned above, I think he would still be suspended the first 5 games after the lockout. The players still aren't getting paid so it doesn't count until the lockout is done. However, if Bynum signs to play overseas and the lockout is over and he chooses to stay for 5 more games (which he also risks injury and breaking contract with the Lakers) I wonder if that would be a loophole where those 5 games supsension would be lifted.

I don't think contract expiring has anything to do with suspensions. Darius Miles served a 9 game drug suspension after signing a contract with Memphis as a free agent.

Im liking his attitude though to be silently confident, no joke attitude. Dunno if he's serious and actually somewhat recovered from his injuries, and was a bit lucky. Bynum could be serious.

Re: Q&A Session With Andrew Bynum
Here's hoping he doesn't find a way to blow a knee playing piano...
It's funny... As much as I like Bynum, I still consider him kind of a rookie because he's been healthy so infrequently... So when he starts making veteran sounds like he's calling out his team, it makes me cringe...
He's still in 'shut up and bring it' mode for me... I really don't care what he says or how he says it...
He could say he was going to take up badminton and I still wouldn't want to hear it... Just show up next season and prove you're worth our investment...
