Stern Inteview on Mase/Ireland

Post#1 » by LApwnd » Mon Oct 17, 2011 4:30 pm

dude sounds like the countless other non-lakers fans or "haters" of the league, his comments bout this CBA was in part to make the league more competive and prevent the LAKERS from taking advantage of being able to pay players more. Thats stupid, last time I checked when Lakers won b2b, we did not have highest pay roll. We do now obviously but having the biggest payroll doesn't GURANTEE anything, just ask the Knicks and Mavs. I think this is the biggest misconception around the league now bout the Lakers, that we are some how like the Yankees and BUY players. Yes this team has been top 10 in the league in team salary year-in year-out even during our suck years but we're winning because of good mgmt. not cause we spend the most money. Owners like Cuban, Dolan, that NJ owners and countless others have bank accts that would put Dr. Buss accts to shame but its always the Lakers who are made to look like the "evil tyrant" who has an limitless spending.

Owners want a scapegoat. They'll blame anything other than themselves.

no matter what salary system they incorporate, Lakers will ALWYAS have the advantage of being in LA and their History....nothing is ever going to take away from that.

I agree with you LApwnd... I honestly don't think there could ever be a team like the Yankees in the NBA that wins because basketball is a team game. Realistically baseball is more of an individual sport. There are some interdependencies but a good short stop is a good short stop. A good center may only be good on a particular team with a certain style. Even if the league went a no cap system a team of 10 all stars would probably have a hard time sticking together as a team for a full season.

I think a hard cap is ridiculous too because it limits teams with the ability to grow, teams with the extra income that did well and earned the right to have larger salaries. That's why I think the soft cap works so well, it keeps teams that shouldn't be overspending from doing it and allows teams that do well and make money (or with big pockets as in the Knicks) to reward themselves for their hard work presently and historically (again the Knicks).

The owners are being greedy in my opinion wanting a hard cap. In the end I see the new CBA looking like the old one, but with a close to 50/50 BRI split, maybe some cap level adjustments to the luxury tax system and some fluctuations on the MLE and LLE.

This whole thing just annoys me. It's not like anyone pulled a gun to these owners head, and forced them to buy an NBA team. They knew what they were getting themselves into. Yes, the Lakers are in a profitable market - Life isn't fair. My parents aren't multi-millionaires - Just the way it is, get over it.
