Moving Kobe to PG?

I was reading on bleacherreport.com and I came across something about moving Bryant to PG. I was thinking no at first but then after reading up on it. I would say I agree. His court vision is out of this wold and his understand of the game would allow him to become our point guard for now. If he slides over to the PG spot I say we give JR Smith the full MLE, that's if we have one. So what do you guys think or am I just a bit too drunk?

well, ive always wished he was at the three more often...ive always felt he was best there...and honestly, under phil , within the pseudo-triangle, kobe really was the pg much of the time...but im not really sure what browns offense will be like, so until i get a feel for what his schemes would be, i would have to say no, as most pgs will gas kobe pretty quickly...id rather have him worn down by stronger bigger sf's then winded by shorter , quicker guards...

Bc of his age, I'd like to see him play a PG role more, but still sit at SG. I'd like afflalo or young though.

If we can get Afflalo the he could guard the faster PGs of the NBA, as for the offense Brown runs aDribble penetration offense. It's the same one that had James at the top of the key, but one thing that will be different is that unlike James Kobe will have Bynum, Odom and Gasol to dish too. We also can't over look the fact that Bryant passing skills are above most pot guards in the NBA too. I feel that this could work out for us, we just need to find a defensive minded guard that can hit shots and guard a point guard on the other side of the floor.


As for his passing he put out six dimes in 2005, Grant, Odom, Butler and were his teammates, so with our front like alone he could put up 8 or 9 dimes

I personally don't want to have to rely on Kobe to penetrate because it would probably cut a half a season off of his career. Maybe Blake regrew his testes and Ebanks got some handles!

Kobe's mentality as a natural scorer would not allow him to be a very efficient PG. If he plays PG, most of the other players would not see the ball ever.

Haha... true.

Kobe does need to do more playmaking this year in terms of setting up the offense or just moving the ball around, but I wouldn't want him bringing the ball down and setting things up every time. I think I'd rather see him do more work in the post if anything.

Bad idea for 2 reasons.

1. Kobe's ballhandling has suffered the most from his finger injuries. He can't handle the ball the same way he used to against pressure, this would increase his turnovers a lot and be bad for the team.

2. He doesn't have the energy to do the PG's duties plus the SG's duties. He's old. We need Kobe to conserve as much energy as possible for what he needs to do. Being point guard will take too much out of him and it will decrease his efficiency a lot.

I think he has always wanted to play for the Lakers though. If Kobe and co can't motivate him, no one can.

Phil Jackson thought moving Kobe to PG would drastically shorten his career so NO.

I believe, at this stage of his career, Kobe would be better served playing small forward. This would enable him to go against players who are bigger and slower instead of smaller and faster. The result would be an advantage to him on both ends of the floor while potentially adding another year to his career.

In order for this to happen, the Lakers would need to acquire a penetrate and dish PG and an excellent shooter to play shooting guard. Here's what I am thinking...

Why this trade works for DET:
Andrew Bynum is arguably the 2nd best center in the NBA. He is still young and could become a dominant big man if placed on a team that were to make him a first or second option. Yes, Monroe is young and has upside as well, but that upside is nowehere near that posessed by Bynum. Caracter could be a decent backup PF. And, Blake would be a very good mentor to Brandon Knight at the PG position. Their new lineup:

SG...Stuckey...White
SF...Daye...McGrady
PF...Jerebko...Maxiell...Caracter
C...Bynum...Wallace

Why this trade works for LAL:
With this trade, the Lakers acquire a new backcourt and a young, solid big man who could be a very good role player on this team. Their new lineup:
