Bynum for Howard, Keep Gasol... Can it happen?

Post#1 » by Hugs4Divac » Sat Dec 17, 2011 12:50 am

I've been a huge Pau fan since he came to the Lakers. I blame his poor playoffs last year on playing until June along with summer tournaments three years in a row... He may or may not have also been going through a personal life crisis which also could have contributed to his dud playoffs. Hopefully dude is rested and refreshed, and will come back with a big chip on his shoulder (similar to his 09 season). I don't believe in any player's instant demise (especially a top 15 player), just thought he had a bad year last year.

Anyways, I'm hoping the Lakers can keep Pau as he is poised for a bounce back year. Is there a way to flip Bynum + picks + role players + taking back awful contracts, or a possible way to involve a third team? I think Orlando's asking price of Bynum & Gasol is too high, and I'm hoping once the dust settles it's Kobe, Pau, Dwight & the gang.

Thoughts?

Our FO seems pretty adamant on shopping Gasol, so I say it's only a matter of time before he goes. Whether or not it's to Orlando along with Bynum remains to be seen, but either way him being traded is going to go towards us getting Howard. There's no way around it.

I just don't understand the FO's knee-jerk reaction to last season's bad playoffs. It feels like they've been swept up in emotion of the bad playoffs and the failed trade and want to make a move just for the sake of making a move. In my mind he's somewhere between a top 10 to top 20 player in the league. Trading him for a player ranked higher in that list makes sense, but for a package of lesser players makes no sense. The NBA is all about having blue chip players, not a bunch of role players. Trading him for anyone except deron or dwight at this point feels like a regression.

I hope reason prevails and they watch him play for a month so they can remember, "oh wait, he's really good!"

Honestly Lakers' fans are making too big a deal about losing depth. Just trade Bynum and Gasol for Howard, clear space for Deron Williams, get him to LA next offseason, and sign minimum/ring chasers to fill up the rest. It isn't that bad. We went to the Finals and lost with this plan but hey.. we made the Finals. That's already a success.
