And btw, doesn't Kobe's contract include like a no trade clause?

Well there was some cases in NBA history like the Knicks no longer wanting Ewing, and Rockets sending Hakeem to the Raptors.

No trade clause. Even though kobe said he's isn't going to leave just to chase a 6th ring there's no way a team could compete for a championship if they traded for kobe anyway.

Kobe has the Jordanesque quality about him. I'll think he could average 25 a game until he was 40 if he wanted. Although, I see him leaving around 38-39. I wouldn't trade him but I see what Bucher was trying to say.

Kobe and DAL pick for Melo. Maybe the Artest formerly known as Ron going to NY for expiring contracts and maybe a Landry Fields.

This would have to come after a trade request by Kobe for a possible reunion with Phil Jackson (either as a head coach or team president). LA gets a great player who will be forced to grow up in the Lakers organization and Melo, Pau, Bynum is one of the best front courts in the NBA. LA can use the trade exception and a 1st rd pick to get a PG and make a run at OJ Mayo in a sign and trade with expiring contracts and picks.

The assets the Lakers acquired by trading Shaq allowed them to acquire Pau Gasol (butler turned into brown with turned into Gasol) and a key piece of 2 championship teams. On acquiring Melo, they get a 27 year old superstar that needs an organization like the Lakers to help him reach his full potential.

The one team Kobe may waive his no trade clause is New York.

If the Lakers don't want Melo, then they can get New Jersey involve and get Deron Williams. Now push Orlando for Howard, and I'm sure Howard will push as well now that Deron is in the fold.

You can start over with Howard, Pau and Deron as your big three. You can even think further about the future by flipping Pau for Derrick Williams and Beasley.

However, I'm sure Kobe would insist that he plays with Melo in NY.. Would New Jersey part with Deron for Amare? So it's all moot. LOL.

No! But I can't understand Kobe's contract. His contract is killing Lakers. I don't think that he is playing for money any more. He wants rings. Why don't he sign for a vet min? Lakers can trade Gasol for expiring and then they can sign Deron in the summer with 2-3 good bench and role players. I am not sure about the contracts when it can be resigned or player can be amnited but this is just an idea.

He really got a little excessive with that contract. Even 20m would have been more than reasonable.

This thread has turned into all kinds of off topic but in any event, do you realize how bad the Lakers would look if they traded Kobe? That would be like the Bulls trading Jordan, that doesn't even sound right now does it? I see so many of you in the game threads after Kobe has a good game talking about how you're going to miss him once he's gone, yet you're advocating trading him? I don't understand.
