Metta's defense and what he brings to the table is incredibly overstated in this thread. And the fact that this Javier Mastro guy is upset over Peace being trash is laughable and leads me to believe that he could quite possibly be Metta himself, or at least a relative. And as far as "bringing it" in crucial games, if that's the case and he's only good on crucial game days then he should only get paid on crucial game days instead of over an 82 game season. I don't know of any case of where it's ok that a person gets paid to sparingly contribute in anything.

He definitely isn't worth what he's getting paid, which is why I hope with every fabric of my being that his misshapen head is amnestied and not on the roster at the beginning of next season.

There's like 3 people on this board that understand that Artest's defense is beyond overrated

Throughout the season... Night in and night out.... MWP's defense is over-rated... But he also does come up big against big competition...
So there are a handful of very scary matchups for us where MWP can be invaluable... The rest of the time, he's pretty much useless.
That said, he's been playing much better since the all star break, than he was before.

Lakers saving amnesty for someone. MWP is the obvious choice. Notice he has been playing much better lately.

Keep it up MWP and you wont get cut son.

At this point I could careless whether it's Blake or MWP who gets amnestied. While MWP's defense is good at times he's still horrific on offense, and when his defense isn't working to our advantage he's contributing absolutely nothing on the court.

Last night against the Grizzlies for example, Rudy Gay still shot 8/14 for 18 points while MWP was 2/9 for 5 points in 35 minutes.

Keep in mind this exact same thing was said about WALTON and FISHER.

MWP will have value to a team. Especially if the Lakers give away their 1st round pick next year in 2013. The Lakers will try to get rid of Steve Blake too and a veteran team will have interest. The Lakers front office just needs to ride with Kobe, Pau & Andrew and have guys that want to play for the minimum and 2nd round picks to build the team. Resigning Ramon Sessions should be a priority.

It was a mistake not to amnesty him last summer, to be honest. I would be HIGHLY surprised if he isn't amnestied this summer...and for what it's worth, I hope some crappy lottery team/city picks him up, so he can't make his money not doing anything.

A few good games aside, it's been painful having him on our team, and playing 4 on 5 all year. The guy has even felt like a Trojan Horse at times.

mitch needs to do psychological terrorism on him next off-season. Artest said he was going nuts when he was drafted and had to play for a **** team where they lost game after game and he was going crazy.

so yeh, keep remembering him that if we amnesty him he may end up on the lolcats... In fact, mitch needs to say, Michael even said he like artest very much...

That would do it. Artest would pick up his option then we use the amnesty on Steve "**** STUPID **** PIECE OF ****" Blake.

that would be the perfect scenario. :)

I disagree on that. We needed to give him a chance to play without the triangle and under a coach focused on D.

I was like 90% sure we would see the rebirth of Artest, but when He announced he changed his name I knew he would be crap. He's just an attention whore living in L.A. and getting paid millions to play in the Lakers...

Still, we needed to give him a chance. He got his chance and still SUCKS.

So now that he only have 2 years left it becomes harder(makes less sense) to use amnesty on him... We still have pau and Kobe on huge contracts...

But we'll see. Maybe Mitch can convince artest to pick up his option.

The OP and yourself are Fair Weather fans, you'll stand by a player or a team when they're doing great but when the crap hits the fan then your all for jumping ship and leaving them. In the Finals in 2010 I bet no one wanted to to get rid of him when he played big for us, but since he isn't putting up the same stats then you turn your back on them. He provides the defense we need when we play big players on the wing. Ariza as much as I love him he got man handle by Pierce, Artest is bigger and I know slower but he is a force that is very much needed on this team. I could care less what you think about my last post, for what is worth you can (insert anything here you want)

Artest has two more years(He's not stupid enough to opt out when he's playing this badly) and is paid more than Walton and Fisher. If Mitch manage to dump Artest completely then I will build a shrine for him.

^^

his agent released some info to the press that artest would play billups games if lakers use the amnesty on him...

so he's afraid of end up on a **** team. If mitch can keep pressuring him he may end up picking his option then one of the teams that'll lose in the playoffs this year because they lacked a "lockdown defender" [ROFL] will pick him up for the MLE... Especially on the east... Some young teams out there with Gms ready to do some stupid move after a playoff exit to please the crowd.

A team would be insane to sign Artest for as much as the full MLE or even think about starting him. The only reason Artest starts is because our SF rotation is awful. And really, amnestying Artest isn't much of a threat since he gets paid anyways, and that beats opting out ten times out of ten considering how much Artest has dropped in value.

for a normal player, yes. Artest may be different. He already gave hints that he's going to do what billups did.

Not full MLE but a ~13.5m/3yr may be offered to him. So he wont lose that much by opting out.
