Lowry is a largely improved outside shooter over anyone we have at that position. He had also been one of the best defensive PGs prior to his injury. I mean at one stage he was close to 19/9/7 or something like that and was making serious consideration for all star voting.
If we do use our TPE on a starting caliber PF that can work from the perimeter, I'd be all for trading Gasol for either of Dragic or Lowry and Houston's pick.

Re: Lowry/Mchale having issues.
Sure, but Sessions was averaging something mean until he hit the playoffs and everybody remembered he was just a backup point guard.
I'm not knocking on Lowry, he is a good point guard, but I would be shocked if he puts up anything close to his averages in Houston, which are moderately good anyways.
Again, don't get me wrong, Lowry would be an upgrade for us for sure, but I think we're overlooking how good Gasol was for us (and can still be) if we go back to him as a focal point in the offense.
Like Lowry and McRoberts/Murphy/Hill or Gasol/Sessions...give me the latter, even though I would short Sessions at the first opportunity and like BLake over him anyways.

I think there are three deals out there for Pau/Blake/Josh
Scola/Lowry/Martin
Brand/Iguodala/Lou
Williams/Beasley/Barea
Each deal has its strong suits and down falls.
Houston gives you the most talent, but they cost you the most in the long haul.
Phili gives you the deal with athletic youth who has experience, and Brand/Lou expire
Minny gives you youth and pieces that can grow around a young Bynum, but lack smarts
I would take any of the three because Deron is pipe sadly, and we need to end the Pau/Andrew experiment as they can't play together on both ends when it matters as they both play the same position, and neither has a PF game

The sample size is quite different with Sessions' numbers and Lowry's. Lowry did it over a good stretch at the end of last season and the start of this season and he is physically more imposing on defense than the light weight Sessions.
Also Lowry was the only offensive spark on an otherwise very blue-collar Houston team.
I like Pau and would love to keep him but we cannot afford much flexibility with 3 max salaried players on the roster, especially when 2 of the 3 do not gel together well.
As I see it, one of our big 3 needs to be sacrificed for depth and roster strength. Bynum could still get us another superstar caliber player sometime down the road if he can keep his existing good health, Pau on the other hand on this roster will only look worse and decline in value, so its much safer to cash in on him now.
He did a lot to the franchise and the trade and additional salary we took on from Memphis produced good enough dividends already in a solid 3 year runs to the finals but now its just time to cash in.

The Lakers aren't getting another superstar player for Pau the Lowry, Scola, Lee trade is really the best package they would get a good PF a really good PG and the 6th man they so desperately needed this season. I dont get the Minn scenario why would the Lakers want 2 more SF's and a really undersized PG.
GO LAKERS

**** lowry watch him come here and turn back into a scrub, he had some good moments but for pau i want a proven all star handling the ball or depth around the perimeter and bench

Unlikely that the Lakers take back Scola's contract. 2013-2014 is the key year for teams to avoid the triple luxury tax. Unless the Rockets take Artest and Blake...but even then Scola has an extra year. Maybe the Rockets thrown in Courtney Lee and a pick.
