Why not take the chance with a minimum I don't understand, the guy was a great 6th man, you're telling me he's not going to have some big moment with the Lakers? Do it.

just to note, if LO wants to sign for the minimum with the lakers, u gotta understand that he'd actually be getting BELOW vet min since he'd have to sit out a month and a half without pay before he could start playing and getting paid.

Im going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you didnt actually read the reasons why not to sign him in my original post. Odom isnt available to LA until Dec 11 the seasons starts on October 30. Do you really think its a good thing for a team to forgoe other key pieces in order to wait to see if Odom will be available at that date? Another thing is, he wont have training camp with the team. You just cant throw Odom into the mix and expect him to play like he did in 2009. Also fans need to stop acting like his poor season this year is purely based around his emotional issues. Lamar isnt particularly great at anything when he has to be counted on. The fact is, had he been as good as people thought he would be in the first place LA would have never had to trade for Gasol. Remember when he was called the "Goods" and he was supposed to be the next 20/10/5 guy...yea, he never showed up.

A few thoughts...if Gasol is indeed moved for some players and picks and Hill is retained, Odom coming back as a bench player for a low salary makes him essentially risk - free. December? Who cares? That's like one month and a week into the season...plenty of time to gel with the team in his role for the playoffs.

As far as his career, did Odom reach his potential? Absolutely not. However, he has still been one of the best all - around players in the league for a decade (except this year).

I would say Bynum's injury that year precipitated the Gasol trade, not necessarily Odom not putting up numbers.

Lastly, and I think that this item is forgotten or not addressed nearly enough, the Lakers front office did an astounding job of building a championship team around a volume shooter, not only from a sheer talent standpoint, but also putting players around Kobe who would defer to him and his personality, despite being NBA stars themselves, Gasol, Odom, Bynum, and even veterans like Fisher.

Not all teams with a similar talent level would have the chemistry with Kobe that those players did and allow for a winning team chemistry. Like Odom for instance - his deferential nature to Kobe was almost as important as his talent.

Logic of risk escapes you guys. Management as strategic as LA's isnt going to wait 1.5 months to sign a player that is supposed to play a factor in making them contenders. Lamar Odom if he wants to really play ball will probably be signed before training camp. Waiting out for Odom in december requires LA to not make moves at the bench for bigs and wait to see if Odom doesnt sign anywhere for 1.5 months. The idea to do that is quite stupid.

Apparently Kobe Bryant's been pushing for him since January or something; I wouldn't be opposed to his return at all. Given the fact that his return won't coincide with a new Kardashian attention-whore reality show, I would be behind this deal with all my heart.
