Not always, but did you read the article? Do you think he's anything less than being forthright and fair? He was honest while being diplomatic, pure class. Do you think Brian Shaw was lying?

milesfides wrote:I thought Jerry West was recently diagnosed as Bi-Polar or something... There has to be another side to that story.

What does that have to do with the credibility of that report? So, if you're bi-polar you're a liar?

I think if given a chance Jim Buss will show himself to be that great basketball mind.

You'd better watch it, somebody is going to use you in their sig.

What's wrong with hiring a bartender, if the guy knows his stuff.

So you fire scouts who've been working for 24 years, who worked under Jerry West, for a bartender who you think knows his stuff? Are you serious?

And as for the rest:

Given the context he provides, letting a few people go during a lockout seems justified

Did you pay attention to how he did it?

Do you understand the difference between being a sports fan and being an executive of one of the biggest companies in the country?

Kobe repeatedly said, he would let the FO do their job... That he's just a player. Maybe they took him at his word.

There's a difference between letting a player dictate your moves and doing the prudent thing and getting his input on one of the most important relationships in sports. Coach and player.

Everyone who has ever been laid off or had their contract terminated feels like that for a while. Ronnie probably just needed a little while to cool off.

Or maybe you need to get a better clue about about what happened. It wasn't just Ronnie and B. Shaw, it was dozens of other employees, and the way they were fired was totally classless. That's why it was featured in several articles including the Los Angeles Times and Sports Illustrated.

I think that's one interpretation of the events, as time goes on and we grow to know Jim Buss more like we got to know his dad, those issues will take on the proper perspective.

 You guys bros?

Next time you share your ham sandwich with the Busses, please tell them Laker fans don't like cake.

If Jim Buss really cares about protecting the Laker's legacy why did he decide to replace the entire coaching staff and the scouting department? Cleaning house makes sense if it's a terrible team like the Bobcats, it doesn't make sense on a good organization like the Lakers.

He hasn't done enough to be vilified, but it's hard for me to say there is zero warning signs on what's to come.

That's probably 95 percent of the reason I don't like the guy. I just can't come up with a single good reason to gut an entire organization, especially one as successful as ours, other than hubris and ego.

Well, if you were Commodus and Phil Jackson came in and won the hearts and minds of your inherited empire and was bedding your sister, wouldn't you want to kill him? I mean, not give him a new contract and fire his staff?

Oh, what a dream it would have been, had Phil and Jeannie moved into the front office, Shaw been promoted to coach, and Bynum been traded for ballers. It would have felt so right. :violin:

Probably. And unfortunately, we can't have him strangled. Er, removed. Silver spoons FTW.

well, if anything, i sure am gettin alot of information from this thread to make an informative decision, about where our team is heading. I'll hold judgment as more results come in. thanks for the info . . .

HOWEVER, i will say this. we do still have that commonality. we all are DIE HARD LAKER fans and want to pull down our 17th championship . . . and soon.

On Mike Brown:

"I think he did a fantastic job. ... I want to sit down for a couple hours and go through (if) his influence showed up on the floor, which I think it did. I think it was just unfortunate we lost that series, otherwise we’d still be in it and we’d all think that everything is fantastic."

1st time poster, VERY long time lurker here. Your post inspired me. Allow me to respond..

What contributions have the Buss' made exactly? Signing checks? Dr Buss made two moves that I'd call unqualified successes: buying the Lakers and promoting Jerry West to GM and essentially leaving all basketball related matters in his hands.

It's become very apparent in the last few years that the shine, and the intimidation factor, that the Purple and Gold had was mostly due to the brilliance of Jerry West.

Just curious - do most of the people who post here live in Southern CA? I spent the majority of my life in CA up until very recently. I always remembered Jim Buss as the (Please Use More Appropriate Word) who stumbled drunk around Manhattan Beach bars. Just because Jim Buss' father owns a sports team does not mean he has a shred of basketball acumen. So please explain to me, as a fan and a customer, why I should give Jim Buss any credit?
