Rank Em: Top 5 PG's & C's

Post#1 » by crazyeights » Tue Jun 26, 2012 4:13 pm

I'm very curious how people will come out on this, I want to do a little experiment. With the NBA landscape changing and calls for the end of the "true center" era ringing in the air:

Rank your current top 5 point guards and centers.

Point Guards

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Centers

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

agree with the pgs but if were talking about this season alone, id take rose off the list and add parker.
as far as centers, id put demarcus cousins at #3. #5 at the worst. sam dalembert is not top 5. he didnt even start towards the end of the season once camby was acquired.

For the purposes of this thread, I'd not to take into account an injury plagued season like Rose had, unless it's something that should affect him down the line. All I mean is, not limiting this thread to this past season, more going forward who's the best. Rose's clearly a top 5 PG.

Point Guards:

1. Deron Williams (21ppg, 9apg, 3rpg, FT 84%)
2. Chris Paul (17ppg, 8apg, 5rpg, FT 87 %)
3. Rajon Rondo (17ppg, 12apg, 6rpg, FT 69%)
4. Derrick Rose (21ppg, 8apg, 3rpg, FT 81%)
5. Tony Parker (18ppg, 8apg, 3rpg, FT 79%)

* I value PG's who can score but also have high assist totals. Free throw shooting is very important.
* Left Russell Westbrook (23ppg, 6apg, 4rpg, FT 82%, 4TO's) because he is more of a 2-guard who looks to score first.

Centers:

1. Dwight Howard (21ppg, 15rpg, 2bpg, 2apg, FG 57%, FT 50%)
2. Andrew Bynum (17ppg, 12rpg, 2bpg, 1apg, FG 54%, FT 58%)
3. Pau Gasol (16ppg, 10rpg, 1bpg, 3apg, FG 51%, FT 78%)
4. Marc Gasol (15ppg, 7rpg, 1bpg, 3apg, FG 52%, FT 80%)
5. Roy Hibbert (11ppg, 11rpg, 3bpg, 1apg, FG 50%, FT 56%)

* Centers should be able to score efficiently in the post and rebound. Free throw shooting is also important for centers.
* I also looked at blocks per game (bpg) and assists (apg).

1. Rondo (Defense/Boards)
2. Paul (Steals/Moxie)
3. Rose (Athleticism/Potential)
4. Westbrook (Athleticism)
5. DWill (Moxie)

1. D12 (duh)
2. Bynum (duh)
3. Cousins (duh)
4. Gasol, M. (fairly duh)
5. Perkins (best [il]legal screen setter in NBA)
Amat victoria curam.

I didn't use stats to judge mine but Rondo in the heat series was an absolute beast, floor general and all

anyone who watched cousins play post westphal era can attest to that. its hard to prove to anyone youre a top 5 player in your position when your coach has it out for you and publically puts you on blast to save his own ass.

i see a lot of love for hibbert. is it because he was an allstar this year, so people automatically put him in the top 5? hibbert had some great games this year, but also had just as many passive, 0 effort ones. i couldnt tell you how many single numbered points/rebound games he had. if cousins played in the east, he would have been an all star this year. i can honestly see him making the all star team next year, as long as the kings dont play as atrocious as they did in the first half of the season.
