Re: Spotlight: 60th pick, Robert Sacre
So you're rattled because I believe what I say? If I didn't believe what I'm saying then why would I say it? I never said he wasn't going to prove me wong, if he does then fine. But as of right now he hasn't done that, and I reserve the right to have my doubts about him until he does something to make me think otherwise. Truly sorry if you've somehow taken exception, but that's just how it is and how it'll be.
And I find it comical that you somehow try and disprove my theory of finding a possible steal in a guard or a wing player easier to do than finding a quality big, when in your list you end up listing more wings than bigs.

as in the last pick of the draft, as in mr. irrelevant, as in absolutely nobody wanted him, as in teams had the opportunity to pick twice and sometimes three or four times and still didn't want him, as in he wont amount to absolutely anything.
And while I was being sarcastic with that post, I don't think he'll be in the league long at all.

The past handful of posts was quite a hoot. And self-quoting, to boot. And Wimbledon has barely started. Nice rally ladies.

What you just said is more of a mystery than who Robert Sacre is, but I don't think Jay Bilas or anyone else for that matter is going to waste their time on this.

Sacre's number is 76 and Johnson-Odom is 49. I feel like I've posted this before, but I didn't see it in here.

Listening to his interview he sounds like a great teammate. Even if he's riding the bench, it can't be overstated how important a good glue guy can be (think Josh Powell, who surprisingly was supposed to be one of our best leaders at the time).
We need to become a team again, rather than an assortment of talents.

I'd be convinced if he can wave the towel like Morrison and show moves like Turiaf.

I think you guys are going to be surprised. Being from Vancouver I tried to follow his college career since Gonzaga was just south in Washington. It's true that if a 7 foot guy plays four years of college and doesn't put up big numbers you have to wonder.
But everyone who has coached him or played with him always says he handles his job, always puts his team first, is the most positive person they know, and they all want to play with him and feel the team is better with him in the lineup. And Gonzaga has been a pretty decent team over the last four years and as a small school usually beat expectations.
He seems quite smart, is upbeat about life, has no illusions about himself as a Laker, says he'll do whatever it takes, is known as hard a worker as anyone, and you'll never hear one single negative remark about him personally.
None of this matters of course if he can't play ball but I see a little of a young Anderson Varejao in him as far as impacting a game without getting big stats. Varejao took development time for a few years before he finally found what works for him to be succesful.
I'm sure all Sacre wants is a chance to prove himself. For the last pick in the draft I'd say he's about as good as you could find.

Maybe he can be our Nick Collison? Or pretty much just a bigger Jordan Hill? Hopefully he gets his post game better though, but he does seem like he'd be a good defensive presence for us.

Well you can't teach size. And sense no one else wanted him, why not?

Why no one else wanted him?
Easy, he's a 7f senior center that gets his shot blocked more than any other player at his position in college basketball. That's why.
You need to be a solid shooter to make it in the NBA with an athletic impediment at the 5.

Really solid pickup. Not only is he a serviceable big man, but he is an absolutely fantastic human being and teammate. He is a winner straightup and while he isn't going to ever be a star, his energy is contagious and he is extremely well liked by everyone who meets him. If he makes the team, he will instantly become a fan favourite, he's a player with the type of attitude that all championship contending teams love to have. As far as his basketball skills go, he can body up with the other centers in the league and he loves to play scrappy and bang down low. He's also an excellent free throw shooter and has a couple good reliable go to moves in the post (very solid baby hook).

Re: Spotlight: 60th pick, Robert Sacre
I like this pick a lot, dude is athletic, big and can actually patrol the paint. This guy will be the perfect counter to teams that have these hyper active "Faried / Ibaka" types. You have to have guys that are willing to bang with them, that's how they're neutralized.
In reality he won't get many minutes, but he can be used in situations where our bigs are in foul trouble. The other prong to this pick tells me Mitch is going to move Pau, I expect Pau will be off our roster by August.
