its being reported that deron will officially resign with the nets. what does this potentially mean for us laker fans? well, basically that the LA/ORL trade of Bynum for Dhow will go through and most likely the extension will be signed. Why? because what other teams can he sign with via free agency next year? with deron tied up to brooklyn, Dallas is out of the question, which leaves ATL. Sure, a team of cp3, smith, and howard sounds great, but that can be another failed pipe dream for dwight, like this failed brooklyn one.
the only remaining reported packages for dwight are the rockets deal and LAs. of the two, ORL has said to be more intersted in the latter. So, if LA truly wants dwight, the signs are looking good.

Orlando can accept a Nets garbage package of Lopez and stuff plus picks till the end of the century. not likely but the possibility is there. Other than that Orlando may be forced to accept a straight up swap for Bynum. I don't see the Lakers taking on Hedo or Jrich with that.

No way in hell do we take on those contracts. Why should we need to? Do you want quality or cap space?

That's why i think the best deal is Bynum for Howard straight up. Both teams will gladly be taking on injury prone divas.
Then right after, we should flip gasol for whatever the best deal out there is for him. whether it be for jsmith, or the rockets package, minny etc.

Who exactly is Orlando going to sign and rebuild with? Who the heck is rushing to Orlando with Brook Lopez as the best player on the team? Late firsts? Those are almost not even worth mentioning. All L.A. has to do is be the best offer, that's it. If the ABSOLUTE worst-case scenario came about and L.A. had to take on Glen Davis and J-Rich for Blake+MWP in the deal so that Orlando is clean in a couple of years, alright so be it, you live with it. If that's what Brooklyn is hanging their hat on they are morons.

Will you guys take Howard if he doesn't want to sign an extension? Problem with the Lakers is Bryant and Gasol are old, they maybe have a 2 year window and then the talentwell runs dry. Hawks even with Horford, Teague, and Smith are a better option. He plays out his career on a contender.
No guarantee Howard will commit and you could lose your future franchise cornerstone (Bynum) for nothin.

Don't let the extension talk fool you. I'm starting to feel it's been greatly misinterpreted. What's so strange about a star player refusing to extend their current contract if re-signing with the team that holds their bird rights would be more profitable? That's what D-Will just did. That's what Chris Paul is going to do. It's really not at all surprising that Howard (not to mention Bynum) would do the same, now is it?
And speaking of our "future cornerstone"... has he been offered an extension yet? Looks to me like so far he hasn't. Might that suggest there are doubts in management about whether Bynum really is the face of the post-Kobe era after all!?
So of course, whether Bynum would actually sign the extension or not isn't even the issue here. And though the Magic have singled this out as one of their concerns, it'd be a mistake assuming Bynum would walk from any team that holds his bird rights. Same with Howard.

Bird rights + big market = 100% chance he'll extend.
