It's not so much being over the cap. Its competing for the ring that makes being over the cap allowable. Because the other option is being less over the cap and being mediocre and thats what the Lakers end up not doing since they got Nash.
My original point is that the Lakers either have Pau & Bynum or Dwight and role players. Seeing how Dwight has back issues no one is 100% sure if Dwight will be healthy when the season starts. Are the Lakers willing to take that gamble?
Lakers at the moment have a contending team. They may have some holes to fill but should do well next season. At least to the Western Conference Finals is my own guess.
Some of the big questions are when will Dwight Howard be healthy, is he going to extend, and will this completely new team work with only Kobe being the only starter coming back.
