This. Not knowing his weight before, I would be surprised if he was even as low as 200 after the recent weight loss, although that would be a lot more likely.

Whatever it is, I think it will be good for his knees and game. Whatever he loses in strength he will more than make up in added quickness.

Nah, it' not a big deal.

First of all, Kobe probably gained a little weight after the season. Also, 5 pounds give or take is fairly normal fluctuation.

He's probably like 195 right now, which isn't bad considering he's about 6'5" anyways.

To put it into perspective, Michael Phelps is 6'3" and weighs like 185.

Michael Jordan was routinely listed below 200 pounds in the late 1980s and early 90s. Obviously when he came back from retirement, he was heavier.

Kobe should have played at 190-200 his entire career. Having freakishly tall genetic anomalies jump up and down a million times with a lot of weight is just plain stupid.

I knew Kevin Garnett would have a long career because he never got caught up in getting jacked to play basketball.

Also, I don't this would help Kobe's speed or explosiveness as much as it would his longevity.

Hes already been on the phone with nash. it could be a gameplan setup. RUN! RUN! RUN! everyone knows nash' style, quite possibly kobe is attempting to accomodate....

this information is misleading, just because he was listed at 205 or 200 for the season doesn't mean he lost 16 lbs from that listed weight. He easily could have packed on 5-10 lbs after the season, AND THEN lost 16 lbs. To just say he lost 16 lbs is misleading and makes the story seem a bit more dramatic, I would predict he weighs somewhere between 195-200 lbs. To be 185 at 6'6'' is a bit too thin.

kobe is 2 metres tall (6'6" = 1.98m), he'd have to lose another 10-11 kilos to be underweight, which is like 22-25 lbs

thats not close to happening...

he's like what? 185 lbs now?

maybe eventually he'll come back to being 165 lbs as a rookie

He wasn't 240 in '06. His highest was 230 in '05. Got down in '06 and got big again after knee surgery.

I suspect Kobe was hovering around 210-215 and is back down to around 200.

He's skinny but he'll be fine. I think he'll running off screens much more often with Nash at PG and having a more Hamilton/Miller type body will help him out.

It's really a blessing and curse that the Lakers have so many players that can live in the post because Kobe is amazing down there and really should be down low more often than not.

Is Kobe going to do the blood plasma treatment again this summer after the olympics?

Also guys, the BMI scale isn't really the same for athletes or dudes who actually have muscles (unlike myself).

Being under say 22 or so on the BMI scale is pretty damn skinny for an NBA player who is playing against elite athletes with strength and muscle mass... so no real point in saying he'd still be on the normal side on the BMI if he went down to 190 cuz that would be on the 'underweight' side based on the circumstances.

And with bad knees, he needs to be as light as possible.

He was never a "fat" guy so that 16 pounds is a lot. He is shedding muscle. He never had a problem with conditioning so I'm guessing this is to try to get quicker and become more mobile.

How does that make you better than the Lin, Gallo, and Wil fans who root for them over NY?

It will help, lighter load on his knees, better explosion, and will gain quickness to stay on guards....at least until he can funnel them to the middle help.
