Turnovers will go down once Nash is back into the mix, but I'm a little concerned about our rebounding. Houston had 29 second chance points. Guys are too focused on running out on offense which is leaving us exposed on the glass.
It's rough watching Dwight miss so many damn free-throws, but Laker fans just need to grow accustomed to that. It's not going to get miraculously better. It's funny to imagine how differently this season could have gone had Dwight hit his free-throws at a higher rate.

I see your point, I think my post was unclear as I pretty much completely agree with you.
By 'knock down a 3', I basically mean the occasional open shot in a spread floor. We need defense, I just figured we're not going to get 2 reknowned lockdown defenders for Pau, but I do want athletic guys who can run the floor to defend transition, and will hustle to close out outside shooters and swarm to ballhandlers in the paint. So at the minimum be a good help defender, and reduce the number of 2-on-1's and 3-on-1's for the other team.
They could be younger, more unheralded guys who may not have their niche yet in the league. But on this team they can really focus on 3-pointers, and defense. There are a few veterans in the league who have come to thrive on these 2 alone, you can sell young players on this. Basically, I'm trying to lower my expectations for what we can get for Pau, yet still try to address our greatest deficiencies.
And I completely agree with you on Nash. I think he will help our offense and make it more efficient. But our greater weakness right now is defense, so we need to improve our defense even more since Nash needs help there.

I feel like 2-3 Matt Barnes (who makes vet minimum with the Clips) would be greater than 1 Pau Gasol, for this Laker team.
I think at this point you may have it flipped... We need some athletic players that play lock down D and can hit an occasional open shot. We have a team of guys outside of Dwight and MWP who just aren't that defensive minded.
But we need Defense emphasized a lot more by the Coach.
It's a concern that Nash coming back is seen as the answer to our problems when Nash has never been a Defensive minded player. With him on the court, it may get even worse.

I'm a long time Laker fan, but this team stinks right now, we aren't playing for the entire game, our defense is almost nonexistent. I'm not sure Dantoni is equipped to handle this type of roster...Nash god knows when he's coming back. WOW...I hope we can make the playoffs - not even sure of that at this point.

Pau was meant for Phil's system with this team, not Mike D's
He's the payton of this team

Offensive rebounds and turnovers killed them last night, was a pitiful performance. Kobe needs to stop playing hero ball.. When was the last time it worked? How about we close a game defensively?
Jamison can't rebound.

Hero ball is also the antithesis of D'antoni ball...

Well, wake up and smell the HOF scorer, D'Antoni...
I get that but, sooner or later you have to realize that Nash is out, you have Kobe Bryant on the team, Howard can't buy a free throw and you're team is losing on the Defensive end of the court... At some point, you have to let Kobe be Kobe before it turns into a blow-out.
I watched the game up through about the middle of the 3rd and we still had a 13-15pt lead... To that point Kobe had been carrying the offense. When does he need to turn it off?

yes, I agree... we should just go "all in" and let Kobe be Kobe.
He should shoot it everytime and everyone should just rebound for him. Crash the offensive rebounds and kick it back out to him. Repeat.
Howard should get 30 offensive rebounds easily.

I don't actually think Kobe's hero ball has been that bad, or that Kobe can't thrive in a D'Antoni system. In practice, I think it can work just fine. It's just that interestingly in theory, it's at odds with D'Antoni.
I've read a bit of the 7 Seconds or Less book, and D'Antoni seems to really like the concept of ball movement, that the ball can pick up 'energy' when it moves around and can lead to scoring opportunities. A common concept, just given creative emphasis by D'Antoni. I'm imagining that ball movement can come from passing or dribbling, the main emphasis is to keep the ball moving. Most big time players who 'hero ball' in crunchtime do the opposite- they want to settle in, see how the defense positions, then slowly figure out an attack, which also works but in a different way.
At the end of the day, a good shot is a good shot- that's why there doesn't have to be an actual conflict on the floor.

If you actually thought this is what I was trying to say, I doubt anyone would notice...
Point being, D'Antoni needs to define Kobe's role... Not Kobe.
D'Antoni's telling guys they need to score 120 a game and to shoot the ball every time they touch it. He's telling us all that once the offense is figured out, the defense will work itself out...
Kobe is Kobe, and has shown more scoring capability this season than he has in a while. He's going to go 'Hero Ball' from time to time... It's up to D'Antoni to figure out how best to use that, not just that it doesn't fit in his 'System'... That's like saying Kobe doesn't fit in his system. Which would be completely idiotic...
It's not going to work if the coach only knows how to use Nash and Dwight and expect everyone else to significantly alter their game to fit. He needs to figure out how to make all the different All-Star caliber talents mesh.
