His FG% this year is considerably better than Metta's. Yes Metta shoots the 3 better but Marion is a far better ball handler and finisher at the rim.

Neither are perfect, both are old and on the downside of their respective careers but if I could choose between the two I'd definitely take Marion over Metta at this juncture.

To the people saying Metta > Marion... you obviously haven't watched Marion (or maybe you don't wanna think about how bad Metta is) this year.

Marion's pros:
Quicker
More athletic
Cuts, finishes, moves on offense
Better shot selection
Better defense
Better rebounder, passer
Not an idiot and won't get suspended for stupid stuff

Cons:
Doesn't shoot 3s anymore
Mavs would never think about taking Metta for Marion... why would they

Pretty much he's better than Metta at everything besides shooting. That is pretty damn important on this team but Metta is far from automatic and I'd take all the positives Marion brings over Metta, but I don't see it happening cuz it doesn't make sense for Dallas

Maybe we can offer Dallas another trade exception ? LoL

Ebanks/Blake/another trade exception and i'd even throw in Morris or Duhon heck i'd even throw them both LOL

Would love to get Marion but wouldn't want to give up MWP...

I would love to have the Matrix but we don't have anything that Dallas would want.

After tonight's game, Marion is looking less than a consideration and more like a savior.

Uhhh... you have funny way of interpreting things. Marion never said nor implied he wanted out of Dallas. On the contrary, he prefers to stay in Dallas. There have been rumors that the Mavs are trying to use him as a trade piece, so now he's threatening to retire if he's traded to a terrible franchise.

How did you re-interpret that to mean he wants out of Dallas?!? The premise for your thread is almost as ridiculous as your proposed MWP to Marion trade. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever why Dallas would touch MWP.

Marion is a superior player, plain and simple. They're not even close. Marion's PER36 is 14.0 ppg 10.0 rpg while shooting 50.2% from the field. Metta's PER36 is 13.5 ppg 5.9 rpg while shooting 39.7% from the field. Plus, Marion is a glue guy while Metta is a headcase.

Marion would be better than Metta, but hard to see a trade happening between the two teams that makes sense.

Actually I can see the Jim Buss dumping Pau Gasol for Marion to save money and make D'Antoni happy.

But maybe Cuban's going for D-Ho or others this summer.

Forget lately, have you seen Marion in the last four years, actually?

This is a classic case of underrate the guy you know and overrate the guy you don't. Marion's a savvy payer, but Metta brings more still, especially given that Marion is expected to do more, and Metta tries to do less.

They're both pretty good though, honestly. Plus Marion is having some sort of weird renaissance year. I was floored he was shooting 34% from 3 with 8+ boards. Then I looked at his recent years. He's having a year, right place right time, won't last forever.

Call it equal on scoring and boards, which is a stretch, marion still plays better defense and is more athletic, still. No doubt Metta is tougher but Trix can guard four positions.

He's having a good year, but I'd take Metta on almost any team, including this one. When Marion's not playing well, like the last four years, it's really no sort of contribution, and he's not really a better defender in my mind either.

Stats say other wise
Marion last 4 yrs
09-10
12, 6 on 50% fg
10-11
12, 7 on 52% fg
11-12
10, 7 on 44% fg
12-13 thus far
11, 8 on 49% fg

Metta last 4
09-10
11, 4 on 41% fg
10-11
8, 3 on 39% fg
11-12
8, 3 on 39%
12-13
13, 6 on 39% fg

the the only thing Metta has out performed Marion @ is his 3pt % but I would take over all higher fg% than just merely 3pt%. Marion wouldn't just camp out at the 3pt line like Metta does most games, he is just as good as Jamison moving off the ball, something I see very little of from Metta.
