Well Nate won a finals game by himself and still got stuck with the vet min. Some guys just are that journeyman, Jim Jckson type.

It bothers me that Dwight shies away from committment to this team. But one thing is clear, ...he can't be trusted in the clutch and for this, he will never be a "go to guy". If he comes to accept this and focuses on dominating on defense and plays to compliment others (eg Bryant or others), I would re-sign him but at 85-90% of the max. The reality is that the rules have changed and it is much more difficult to dominate in the paint with back to the basket play. Today, its more of a guard's game than ever and unfortunately we have to adjust to compete. Dallas swept us without an inside game, Miami won the chip without it and the likes of Den, GS, NY are also winning without post play.

If he expects to carry the team and continues to be wishy washy, I would just plan to re-build without him.

As for Kobe, I think we need to know how long he plans to play assuming he can come back from the injury. This said, we can't expect him to come back as good as ever and he has to be willing to eat less than his typical "lion's share" when it comes to team responsibility. Otherwise, we will be hard pressed to find guys that will play in L.A. Ideally, we need him to take a serious paycut to help with signing some help.

Why would Dwight openly commit to them? H has them by the balls and leverage. He can get rid of a stupid coach with an ultimatum. And if he's smart he can force them to make roster moves, and not be stuck wasting 2 more years of his prime like they wasted Kobe's as a one man circus.

I wouldn't openly commit to the team either.

Let them sweat especially with this CBA. It's business. No one in this team outside Kobe is truly top 5-10 let alone elite at their position. It would be foolish to just hope Nash or Pau or Metta find a hit tub time machine or Pringles is lucky enough to have Phil give him a how to coach for dummies book.

Make changes happen. Make a better fitting roster happen. Get a coach be it Phil or Stan who won't run his players into the ground, knows X's and O's, and who will protect his players by attacking the refs.

I'm sorry I'm a lakers fan, but I'm a realist, Dwight should make that **** happen before he ever touches pen to contract ... Don't be dumb and trusting and watch your prime athletic years go to waste like Kobe was when he signed in the summer of 04 off their word and had to then kick off a **** storm years later to make them actually live up to it and bring in talent.

This is just smarter by Dwight in the long run

+1, wth dude. You can't just get talent every year, it takes time and the Lakers have been known to put talent around their stars no matter how many years it takes

How is it a slap? They wasted Kobe's prime and milked him as a one man circus after promising him all star help by a certain time window, which they missed. They didnt deliver unless if you count all the scrubs they added to him and Lamar, so Kobe caused a **** storm that embarrassed Jerry, and they couldn't deal him with the NTC so he backed them into a place where they had to open the wallet and bring in talent and focus back in no winning. That's the truth, as Pau, Fish, MWP, Ariza, going into the tax all didnt happen until Kobe caused that **** storm to hit them and got people questioning if they still wanted to win.

Dwight would be stupid to take their word. Kobe was stupid then and had to act an ass to be given real competive talent. Dwight should not hope or trust them, they screwed Kobe like that, hell Dwight was screwed like that his whole oRlando stay,

Jerry was a wonderful owner, but he did have a period where he wasnt trying to win just pimp Kobe. Jim has no history as the solo owner without daddy to point back to, so yes Dwight should use his damn leverage for a better lakers team and situation with a clear future and not some bs hope or dream where he's stuck with talent that is 7th seed at best while they collect checks like Kobe was with Smush/Luke/Kwame/Cook.

That's being real. You don't openly commit to them if you're Dwight until you see on paper what they are about in this regime and their plan ... Not their hopes but their plan as this isn't Jerry Buss ran anymore and simply hoping on Nash, Pau, and Metta getting their game back or this bench of scrubs being better if they returned is just a dumb career path that no player worth his salt should sign up for when they are closer to 30 and should be entering their prime

Preach on Doc!

Biggest loss of the season isn't the amount of games the Lakers tallied up.

THE BIGGEST LOSS IS
DR JERRY BUSS.

I get that you're supposed to be respected once upon a time, being retired, but you can't make an actual factual argument as to why Dwight should commit. You can't argue they wasted Kobe's prime trying to not compete. So please grow the hell up until you can make a counter argument ... Now go run off and tell mommy or daddy in your old mod circle like you like to do
