Iggy?

Post#1 » by 5ertwenty » Fri Jun 14, 2013 11:05 pm

Iggy is now an unrestricted free agent. http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/22 ... To-Opt-Out

It's no secret that he and Kobe are good friends. If he wants to be a Laker, would Denver agree to a possible sign-and-trade scenario?

We can't do sign and trades if Howard stays. If Howard leaves, we'd keep Pau and don't have pieces to do a sign and trade that Denver want.

Can someone explain to me why we can't do sign-and-trade if Howard stays? Is it just an epic luxury tax problem or are there rules in the CBA?

Starting in 2013-14, the team receiving the player cannot be above the "apron" ($4 million above the tax level) after the trade1, 2. A team above the apron can receive a player in a sign-and-trade if the trade reduces the team's payroll and the team finishes the trade below the apron.

In short, we'll be several million over the apron.

Thanks! That really clears things up. Iggy would have been a perfect fit :(

Yes, it is one of those things. Keep Howard and have no other moves or loose him and still would have very little moves. Not sure what he wants to do, but he is holding the franchise at bay till he makes a decision.

It's not that simple though. You could ditch Pau for a TPE and then make a deal to get Iggy if that's what you'd like to do and that's not an impossible feat either.

So ASSUMING we get RID of Pau for nothing, amnesty MWP & re-sign Howard and use said TPE from the Pau trade to make a deal for Iggy, still ASSUMING that the Nuggets would help us strengthen our team that would still increase our payroll and the deal is not possible.

The only part of that that is difficult are the Nuggets. Not possible is a very sharp stretch.

Monta Ellis is right now the rumored name and it makes quite a bit of sense in a three-team deal.

No, the part of that trade that is not possible is that you cannot accept salary in an S&T if that puts you over the apron.

We would not be over the apron. Subtract Pau, MWP, and Duhon's option and L.A. can accept Ellis in a deal.

You can do it, it just creates a "hard" cap at the apron. The easier alternative is to agree to a deal with Monta before he officially opts out on paper. I don't believe he's done that yet. I'm not sure when the deadline for that is, but if he heard that L.A. was interested they might agree to delay that.

we should ban any idea based around the hope that some team uses 20mil of cap space to take on Pau Gasol.

not sure what u mean about agreeing to a deal with monta before he officially opts out, but i'm sure whatever it is is against the rules.

We have 66.3 mil committed to Kobe, Howard (if he resigns), Nash, Blake & Jordan Hill. So whatever contract we add should keep us below $74 mil, so that's close to $7.7 mil now Iggy won't accept that less if he's opting out, Elli's option is at $11 mil for the season and he will not accept less either.

So there are your S&T options, not to mention you need to fill out your roster with the remaining amount. I have also assumed that we'd decline our options on Clark & Meeks. TBH I'd rather keep Clark & Meeks than Ellis.

None of that explains though whether or not Ellis' notification is binding.

??

i'm going to try to take a stab at countering what i think u might mean with these two points:

1. the bucks cannot trade monta ellis before july 1st. after july 1st, he's either going to be a free agent or he's going to play out the final 11 mil deal on his contract.

2. if ellis decides to play out the final yr of his contract, the lakers would have to actually have something the bucks want to get them to trade ellis. what do u propose the lakers send to the bucks in the unlikely event he decides to stay with them for one more yr?

Pau Gasol or a trade exception plus a pick. That's not that hard part. Here's the other question I have:

Does the league say no when the Lakers try to do a S and T or is the result of the trade that prevents it?

the result of the trade is what the nba looks at. if the result of the trade puts u (or in the lakers case keeps u) above the lux tax apron, it doesn't allow it.
