I can google too, but as a coach, what does he bring to the table?
Last year, we knew exactly what each of the assistants added to the staff...
This season, we know MDA and Rambis, we know MDA's bro is a "Defensive Specialist" but know really nothing else about him, and Johnny Davis is just as enigmatic...

Whoever the defensive specialist is this year, needs to figure out some creative schemes, in order to hide some of the deficiencies. Say what you want about Howard, but it hurts to not have a defensive center back there.

I know Ramona says this was all Antoni's idea but i dont buy that.....I dont see him advocating for one of Phils guys to be in his locker room every day. Unless he see's it as a smart political move?

My take is it's a Jimbo move as an insurance policy in case 'Antoni does not pan out by mid season Rambis can slide in and take over and incorperate some of the Tri priciples basically with a few guys who already know it.

"Get the band back together" Why? To run the Tri?

Maybe Jimbo has been listening....or he thinks it might help land LBJ and Mello?

It definitely hurts to not have a rim protector and rebounder of his caliber. However, he was very lazy in transition and not very good in pick and roll defense (helping and recovering). Plus he was terrible for chemistry. So if Gasol can "play smart" on D and you pair him with Hill the defensive front court overall should actually be much improved. I'll take Hill/Gasol over Gasol/Howard defensively any time.

Why insurance? How would he sell D'Antonni on that? How about instead its a compromise to get somebody who is known for defense and a known commodity to Kobe/Gasol, etc? Oh, and the triangle mid season would not happen.

Rambis is probably behind the defensive schemes we're seeing in SL play (aggressive hedging, trapping ball handlers in corners, zones). If anything our team D should be better next season factoring in improved chemistry as well as Rambis as the defensive coordinator. Even though MDA doesn't like zone D, don't be surprised if we use it at times next season.

Not insurance for 'Antoni but insurance for the Lakers...To sell "Antoni on that Jimbo says "I'm the Boss" lol
Also Triangle mid-season would not happen which is why i stated "some Tri principles" which are likely to happen whenever Rambis takes the helm.

The triangle mid season happened before. It happened when la was in the sixth seed and Rudy Booz went to AA! I hope this whole defensive coordinator to this Mike experiment has a longer leash than the offensive coordinator to the other Mike.

That said, it was always supposed to be Rambis. It was pegged as his job with Shaw the assistant until Rambis got itchy and jumped at Minny. Then Shaw got noticed by Phil and the players and they wanted him to have it, buss family not so much. I wouldn't be shocked to see him take the reigns

Biggest adjustment, not having Nash and Pu at the 1 and 4. God they made Fish and Bynum look like JKidd and KMart in their primes covering pick and roll. We need a four like Lamar or Kenyon to contain the hedge or just outright switch
