How Would the '09 Lakers Do This Year?

Post#1 » by Tiesto_Lakers » Sun Feb 9, 2014 11:55 pm

Hypothetically if that team existed today instead of the team we have now, how would they do?

Personally, I don't think anyone would match up with us and we'd have an easier route now then we actually did in '09. The frontcourt was just too overwhelming for opponents, and the athleticism of Kobe/Ariza/Farmar/Shannon was just too much. Fisher holding things down defensively and knocking down open jumpers every game was huge.

Miami or Indiana would be a tougher matchup than Orlando, but our route to the Finals would be a joke. The thing that people don't understand about that Lakers team is just how versatile we were. If you wanted to slow the game down, we would be happy to do the same. And if you wanted to fast break all night, we had the legs to do so.

I wouldn't go as far to say that it'd be a joke, but I think they'd get to the finals. But they had a tough series against Carmelo's Nuggets who were really good at the time so I think it'd be similar to that. But they were definitely more complete. But for me, I remember watching those teams and thinking that there wasn't a team that existed that could beat them when they were focused. It was like magic.

Route to the finals would be a joke? We got taken to 7 games by a gimp Rockets team. Any current of the top Western teams could give us a series in round 2 or the conference finals.

Thunder have given us trouble since they were young and an incomplete team. This current one would be extremely tough on those Lakers.

Yeah I think they'd be tough, but still not enough.

We got taken to game 7 because like a lot of Phil Jackson/Kobe Bryant-led teams, we were very arrogant.

When Yao went down we took our foot off the gas pedal.

Same as when Game one vs the Celtics the year before we were looking sharp until Paul Pierce scooted himself off the court in a wheelchair.

Yeah I'm not saying the Rockets were capable of beating us when we were on, but just saying that a team like that was what we faced in round 2 and still found trouble with them. Just think route to the finals being a joke this year, as opposed to the west that year, is a joke statement in itself. It's not like this is some down year in the West and that was a peak year.

The 2008 champion Celtics had a 7 game series with the 8th seed 37 win Hawks team. You can't look at one specific matchup and draw any meaningful conclusions. For all we know the 67 win Mavs in the 2007 season could have cruised to a title if it wasn't for that specific matchup with G-State

not that well, '09 derek fisher was well into pull up shorts, slap the ground all-time form

OKC gave us a pretty damn good workout in 2010, imagine westbrook ripping apart fish now

that said, we'd have SA and POR (only because LMA wouldn't beat '09 pau/LO and lillard won't be enough) covered

there was a real chemistry between pau and lamar. also Bynum was reading defenses much better. no one would've stopped that team with our height and chemistry
