If Magic gets in on that then good for him, but lets not act like it's going to be sudden championships for an endless amount of time.

I don't think a lot of this applies cause magic's involvement is more for pr and not making decisions.

I think a point a lot of people miss with all this magic ownership stuff is that magic would have such a tiny share that he has no decision making power at all. He's more of a public face for the real owners, the guggenheim group.

True to a degree, the thing is we wouldn't know how much of his assets he'd be willing to liquidate to have more cash to chip in. But in essence you're right if that were to be his only role, but for him to have some decision making control he'd have to pony up at least 150 to 200 mil that would equal probably more than a quarter share. So if the Clippers valuation is set at what....700 to the 1.5 bil reports say, Magic has to come with that much.

Depends on how many is in that group.

to have decision making power you need to be the majority owner, so its going to take way more than 150 to 200 mil. if estimates of of a 1bil selling price are accurate, he's looking at investing 500mil. His current net worth is 500 mil.

for comparison, he put up about 45-50 mil for the dodgers 2 bil price tag, so a tiny 4.5 - 5 percent share.

Honestly I don't think Magic is all that concerned with calling all shots, I think he would like to have a strong presence though.

And I don't think the Clippers are worth $1.5B, the Knicks and Lakers got current valuations of $1.4 and $1.35 billion just this year. The Clippers come in at 13th with a value of $575 million, I seriously doubt the Clippers come close to that 700 mil projection.

The way Foxsports radio spelled it out on the radio its pretty believable that the clippers are worth 1 billion. There TV rights are up in a couple of years so that will bring in a billion I would think. But not only that the NBA TV rights are coming up as well, so thats going to go up as well. Didnt the Bucks just sell for like 500million. Clippers are in a far better market than that and they will be winning alot of games over the next 5 years. Hell now that Sterling is gone players will probably not mind going there. I think the clippers will sell for like 1.5 billion. And I think Magics group will win. If the same group that bought the dodgers buy the clippers that will affect us.

i don't think he's concerned with calling shots either. i was just replying to your post comparing him to former players who are now in a position to make decision like jordan and his ownership of the bobcats. magic wouldn't be in the same position.

i don't know about 1.5, but i've seen several basketball people throwing around the 1bil number which is the one i used.

I think 1B is high... They don't have their own arena even.

And the number goes down the longer he keeps them.

According to Forbes last month it was estimated at 700 Mil. If he is forced out which I doubt he will then what ever price he gets he will sue the NBA for devaluation of his franchise since he was forced out.

Folks, the Clippers are goin downhill into the toilet!
#1. Sterling is NOT going to sell. Hes a goin down with the ship kinda guy, even if the boat is in flames.
#2. That drops everything. Pricetag like the numbers you guys are throwing around. That drops the high profile coach. That drops all potential free agents. Why?
See #1. Sterling is NOT going to sell.
Bye bye Clippers! Ahahahaha! Your team and your fans are goin down into the toilet!

100% agreed and Oprah, Larry Ellison are teaming up to buy them as well. They can potentially take over LA if any of these rumors go down.

actually thats bad for us, the cheaper the clipps go for the more money the new owners will put back into the team. I prefer the seattle group, hopefully NBA commish feels the same way and approves them and gets Clipps out there, seattle is more fitting of the name Clippers anyways  . They can finally "own" their own town, that cliche is getting old too when it comes to LA, its amazing how "La is going to be Clipper town" when Clipps have never been past the 2nd round in their entire history. I honestly think they're the own team in the West to never have reached the conference finals.

Exactly.. Just like with the purchase of the Dodgers.. Magic was let in on a % of the deal in exchange for using his brand as the face of the franchise.. Would be no different with the Clippers. Magic isn't liquid for over a billion to make that type of investment & actually OWN the team.

I HATE this idea. Magic should just own a piece of the Lakers. If the Lakers are worth a little over a billion and Clippers are worth 800 mil, now way a Laker legend pays 80% of what the Lakers cost. Its not like the Clippers are 80% of the team the Lakers is.

At least it is not the Celtics.

Magic is one of the main faces of the Lakers and if he bys
into the Clippers something will feel wrong about it.

But hey Elgin Baylor worked for the Clippers for a long time
after being a Laker great.

It is up to him.
