All of us know the NBA is a young mans game. Moving forward Nash not should be able to start even if healthy. Give the rock to the best PG. He is a second away from injury. I want change and B Scott will do it. Go Lakers.

Any news on his current health?

He can still be a very effective spot up shooter if somewhat healthy and not asked to shoulder a big workload.

Counterproductive because he'd still have to play defense.

As far as Nash's health:

MT: Finally, Gary, what can you expect from Steve Nash this season? He played only 15 games in 2013-14, battling the nerve issues that resulted from his broken leg in the second game of the 2012-13 season.
Vitti: We’re not sure. When nerves are involved, they either get better really quickly, or they take a long, long period of time. There’s usually nothing in between. We're in that really long period now. He'll be coming back to Los Angeles this week, and all my conversations with him are that he has absolutely no neural issue at this point. He's playing full-tilt, unrestricted soccer. He's doing all the corrective injury and performance exercises he's supposed to be doing, and right now he's 100 percent healthy.

Now, how does that translate into putting on an NBA uniform and getting out there with these guys in a point guard dominated league on hardwood, not a grass soccer field. I don't think anybody knows, and nobody wants to know more than Steve. He really wants to play, and he's committed himself to do whatever it is to play. If he can't, we'll have to address that when the time comes.

MT: But things do look better today?
Vitti: Right now things look better on July 31, 2014, than they did July 31, 2013. He was still having nerve issues last July.

Take it how you wish. We'll see how long he can sustain it.

Nash is the X factor. If he can give us something that would be HUGE. I would love for him to come off the bench and be the floor general. Get Swaggy some easy looks.

Well, how about in very limited PT?

I think excitement should be tempered on Nash, like the Vitti quote said..."There’s usually nothing in between" when it comes to his nerves. He said the same thing last year after sitting out weeks at a time, saying the he felt good only to play and we get news that the half that "Steve has left the game with never irritation".

I'm not expecting anything from him.

In all honesty, you couldn't blame the NBA at the time for stepping in. Was it unfair? Yes and for others, it's debatable.

The NBA was looking to sell NOLA at the time and the original deal was pretty bad for NOLA. Odom ended up being a drama queen and that was bad. Dragic would have left while you'd be stuck with Scola and Martin's deals which would have left them a treadmill team. Ultimately, the revised deal worked in the end as it allowed NOLA to throw away that year and get them their franchise star in Davis which allowed them to sell the team to Benson who owns the Saints. Plus I'm not so sure it would have worked in the end if the plan was to get Kobe, Paul and Howard together knowing how much of a nightmare Dwight was.

As for Nash, I think the best thing you can hope for is that of a mentor role for Lin and Clarkson. I think if he wants a buyout to get a final chance to get a ring, the Lakers should do it and let him go wherever he feels is the best opportunity to get one final shot at it knowing the Lakers are going to be struggling all year. Was it a horrible deal? You bet considering they gave up 2 firsts and 2 seconds I believe? Either way, that's on the front office knowing damn well that Nash had back issues and they went all in with Howard for a push at getting a title and sadly the worse case scenario came out.

In the end, I'd give him a standing ovation knowing what he has accomplished in his career. His stint here was forgettable, but that's the way of the draw and it either works or it doesn't.
