Huertas signing makes more sense now. Makes sense having Huertas playing with the young guys full contact instead of having a guy like Nash that would break down if he accidentally tripped on somebody's foot.

Peace out Nash. Hope to never hear about him ever regarding the Lakers.

I never saw any confirmation that Nash worked with Clarkson and Russell this off-season. In fact I saw a interview where Clarkson said it hasn't happen yet. So I guess now that Nash has signed with the warriors that's out of the question.

Why is this even a thread? The Lakers front office gave him the contract, the Lakers front office told him to go home, and now that he's home he took a job completely unrelated to being a player. So what?

Question is why didn't the Lakers offer Nash a part time gig?

Nash will always be a sick, sad joke to Laker fans. This just seals his fate.

Good riddance...why in hell are you guys in here fret'in Nash going up north ? It was obvious since he had a relationship with Kerr going back to their Phoenix days.

As far as Russell and Clarkson, they'll do just fine. They got to this point without him and will continue to go further without him. These guys are going to be with Kobe all year, they'll pick up a lot of things from him as the season progresses.

Um is it still possible he works for both teams? Doesn't the article say he would work with warriors players a few days a month? Nash had amazing results when working with Clarkson. After Clarkson got shut out of a game by double teams from deandre and cp3, Clarkson had a light night workout, then a film session with Nash, and another film session with Byron. We saw worlds of improvement in the 2nd game of that back to back matchup against the Clippers. I'm disappointed because Nash appears to have a real knack for teaching as he is a technician on the court and has a keen eye for execution.

Don't think so.

It is especially a bummer as the Lakers were very open to keeping him around and giving him a role in the front office. Even though he said he did not want to coach and instead wanted to make films, I expected him to have a change of heart and come into the front office because he maintained that he wants to live in his Santa Monica home and not travel anywhere else.

After reading all these reports from Stein, I think Lakers kept their distance because they wanted to give him time to clear his head, enjoy retirement and respected his reluctance to coaching. Kerr and the Warriors coaches just used their personal relationship with him to turn him around. Fair play to them. Can't do much about it.

It probably was also awkward for him to hang around after the abuse he took from the Lakers fan base.

It's real sad that Lakers fans were bashing Nash for collecting a check this last season and not being around the team. He wanted to just announce his retirement but the Lakers front office asked him not to in order to use his contract as an asset if a trade came up. He took all the heat from the Lakers fanbase in order to help the organization. The guy's not some thief that tricked the Lakers into signing him without divulging his health history. The Lakers traded for him and he broke his leg and had nerve damage that forced him to retire.

I could careless about Nash's time with the Lakers. It's just another end of career flame out that happens to almost every player. We're seeing it with Kobe now.

I was hoping we'd see him in a consultant type role with the team. It's sad, but the general fan doesn't notice the subtle nuances that made Nash such a successful player when he was with the Suns that he could share with the young guards. But much of Nash's quirky moves require a ton of practice, but at least it looked like Clarkson was a willing student.

Opportunity lost.

I am disappointed the Laker's didn't retain him as a player personnel trainer. Say what you want about Steve Nash's shortcomings as a Laker (almost all was due to injuries and old age which was out of his control), but he has a world of NBA experience and has a brilliant basketball mind. Not to mention I believe his personality (being patient and also a fierce competitor and hard worker like Kobe) would translate well as a trainer. I've seen Jordan Clarkson progress while being under Nash's tutelage and I've seen him make a few moves that you know was Nash-like. Nonetheless, I believe the Laker's missed out but hopefully it won't be too big of a blow. I wonder who the Laker's can hire to mentor the younglings now? :dontknow:

FrozenIceCubes wrote:Not sure why people would get annoyed by this... The Lakers have the luxury of telling Magic to work with Clarkson/Russell and also have Shaq work with Hibbert since it looks like Shaq is now fond of the Lakers... Let's be realistic... Nash screwed the Lakers and shouldn't be anywhere near the Lakers...

What I'm really hoping is the Lakers calling Gary Payton to work with the PGs he's a better consultant to teach the guys then Nash and he' would be better at teaching Russell and Clarkson elite defense as opposed to Nash who probably never played defense in his NBA career.

magic and shaq seriously? maybe instead hire coaches that aren't 300-400 lbs and only gives the most obvious of advices

Never really got the sense Nash was all that 'tuned in' to the Lakers and being a lasting figure of the franchise, so I'm not surprised.
I must say though that I am a little disappointed... I think he got more out of us (help in his divorce, more media visibility, etc) that we got out of him. Not really saying it's his fault, but not saying it isn't either...
One of those 'it's a business situations'... He was very professional about it.

injuries not his fault, milking us for all 3years was, seeing as how even a blind man could see his injuries pretty much destroyed his LA tenure since the 1st yr.

First they get Jerry West and now Nash. To me ... this is on ownership.
