If the front office doesn't at least sit bring them in for a meeting it clearly shows their hand that they are tanking for the pick. I'm not sure it was the best way to go about it but has definitely been effective. They let all the mid tier FA's that are getting overpaid get off the market while they fake chase stars and keep cap space while making millions of dollars off Kobe Tour inflated ticket prices. Also i think they needed Kobe to be alone to show him that he can't carry a team anymore allowing him to retire in peace.
