Re: End the Jim Buss Deadline
Phil is so crazy stubborn with adopting the triangle that it would be a real shame to try and see him install it with our team as well. Time to move on and embrace this new era of basketball.

God Jim was such an idiot for publicizing this deadline but Jeanie perpetuating it every damn appearance she makes as if it's suppose to comfort fans is just so moronic and a clear indication she has no business ever involving herself in bball ops.

Yup. He thought having cap room would automatically bring in free agents. He was drinking the cool-aid hard. That being said, I think the front office has positioned themselves quite well. We have a very nice young core with a ton of cape space. I wish Mitch would shut up about how LA fans arent patient. He always uses that as away to say we need stars. Maybe we have stars right now. These idiots just dont want to wait and find out. Let the young core grow for like 3 years together then add the another piece if needed. Its pretty annoying.

I'll be happy with the team having some kind of juice sure. Mitch and Jim aren't attracting you to play for them as personalizes or when speaking about the game which has been recent criticism the past summers. They are off putting whereas Jerry Buss had an aura about him. Jeanie doesn't have that aura but she at least is liked league wide which says something. The other thing is that making **** right with Phil is yet another step in fixing where the franchise goofed.
Everything that went specifically wrong since the millennium with this team has to do with spite for and trying to undercut Phil. You can't deny that. They got rid of him in 05 and trashed the way he coached and preached about showtime being brought back, hired a drunk who couldn't make it through the year, and then had to bend over and bring him back. They gave him terrible talent, i'm talking d league talent when Luke was obvious guy number 3 and yet the Lakers always finished over 500 with him coaching and made the playoffs. They were pissed when he went on the radio and backed Kobe's trade me tirade and said the team hadn't been trying to win and were conserving money. They pink slipped the guys whole staff in game one of the second round when they were defending champs, that's a fact too. They then spent Shaw's whole interview from Shaw's own mouth shooting on Phil and never even called Shaw to say they were goign with someone else after he had spent 10 years in LA because he was a Phil guy. They told him they could not wait 24 hours total for him to go to the doctor and get his own assistant coaches yet they waited a week for Dantoni to join the team and didn't give him any assistants but his brother. Even when Phil offered to help them recruit free agents in turn for having an advisor front office role as JEanie has said, Mitch and Jim said they didn't need him.
Here we are years later coaching blunder after blunder and it's resulted in the three worst years ever, no free agent coming here because Mitch/Jim were openly criticized by two guys they went after in Melo/Aldridge for not being able to communicate about basketball related topics in their meetings, and Kobe popped an achilles to boot trying to cover for their **** up with Dantoni and the NAsh trade.
If the combo of Mitch/Jim don't turn around what they themselves screwed and the problems they created largely because they have a distaste for Phil then they need to be cut loose or moved into roles where they are silent bystanders to save face if firing them is too embarrassing.
It doesn't even have to be Phil doing the full time day to day GM stuff either, just some one with a fresh take. Hell I'll take Phil working with Ryan West having a shot to be more of a voice than just a scout

Re: End the Jim Buss Deadline
No reason to end the deadline. But she should give a 1 year extension.
I heard Mitch on Jay Mohr and you can tell that there is real tension between Jeanie and Jim that will probably never go away. I for one hope that eventually one of them gives up running the Lakers and just is an owner because its a little too much drama for my taste. Mitch made it clear that if Jim is running the show. Mitch also wouldn't touch the Jeanie questions with a 10 foot pole. I got the impression that if Mitch answered any questions regarding Jeanie that Jim would fire him. I think Mitch is trying to give Jim good advice and lucky for Laker fans, so far Jim has been taking it.

Re: End the Jim Buss Deadline
everyone thinking the deadline having some sort of hard limit is downright crazy
jimmy and mitch aren't the type to cut everything to the bone, just to make some sort of arbitrary cutoff they set for themselves like it's some sort of contract.
they're not politicians looking to get re-elected, they do actually mean well and do work towards improving the lakers long-term to win a championship

But don't you think that that's a bit like saying its peaceful after a giant meteor hits earth? We don't have tons of cap space because of deft negotiations, and Jim's incredible mind. We have cap space because he's been unable to sign anyone to save his life the last 3 years. Lord knows he's tried.
To me it's pretty simple: Since he took over, we've lost several "star players" and got nothing for them. We've gone from playoffs to the absolute bottom of the barrel....each year being worse than the one before. We have been unable to sign anyone of note (really no-one of even slight note) for 3 seasons, and our coaching staff has been a revolving door. Each one the 'reactionary opposite' of the man before. You can't look at D'antoni, Byron Scott, and now Luke and say that Jim has any kinda plan.
If it were up to me, he'd step down today. But I hope Jeanie boots him next year unless he's able to get some good free-agents, and this coach turns out to be a good idea, and these draft picks turn out to be really good players. I've not got discounts on my tickets. No.....they are just as expensive as ever. So to me....this is it. Turn it around, or take a hike, and we'll get someone who can. If Jim REALLY LOVES this team, he'd step down.
All these draft picks, and cap space are results of a bad job, not careful shrewd planning.

man this is so true. this is the biggest reason i dont want paul george, kevin durant, mike conley or anybody else that will shunt the growth of our young players. we are already 4/5th of the way done building our team through the draft and the hardest times for a lakers fan have passed. the team will only get better. i dont know how good they can be in 2-3 years but they should be in the playoff mix. if it doesn't work out in 3 years, then start thinking of moving players.
only way i move our assets is if we get a sure shot superstar in return FOLLOWED by another one, and it doesn't gut our team to the core. we're too far into the rebuilding process to just trade away players that have perennial allstar potential.

hah. this is almost exactly what Hinkie told Lowe on the podcast the day before he left. Hinkie said that an approaching deadline will force a manager to take big risks. Which is OK as long as your "clients" know what they're getting into.

Re: End the Jim Buss Deadline
Jim Buss should just step down. The fact that he thinks he could build a contender in 3-4 years just shows how completely clueless he is when it comes to building a team.
