It's basically a 10-step process...

1. The conversation starts with the "other players" we're bringing in along with him... otherwise there's zero chance. Those are BOTH trades for players named either Paul George or Chris Paul AND free agent signings like Conley or Horford.

2. Then Nike comes into the room and says, if you sign in LA then we will renegotiate your contract for $500M - the second highest Nike player next to Lebron.

3. Then Luke tells him that he's going to be plugged into an offense like GSW, the team he just lost to. And he gets to be the Curry of that offense. The main attraction.

4. Then Kobe walks in and tells him there's no better city in the world than LA to be the man. He bro hugs him.

5. Then Magic walks in and tells him how LA is the best city to become a media mogul and a billion dollar brand.

6. Then Mitch tells him Russell had already agreed to come to LA 3 years ago.

7. Then you bring in a Seattle Supersonics fan who reminds him that everybody hates the OKC Thunder and they are cursed.

8. Then just before Jim Buss says a word, you shove a chocolate bar (or poop) in his mouth. And send KD on his way.

9. Then you wait patiently for KD's agent to call us back to tell us he's staying in OKC.

10. Then you tell your fans that Ingram is definitely the next KD.

You tell KD that out analytics team figured out who the best player is for him to team up with based on our commitment to winning...

KDs ears perk up... "Well who is it"...

Then Anthony Davis walks in and says the Lakers just traded for me. We are going to be the next Kobe and Shaq and win rings in LA where players come to have legacies and be remembered. Then you do 2-7 on your list. And then

8. You watch Sonicsgate
9. You show him how the Thunder would have won it all this year if they had Harden his fav teammate but OKC was too cheap to keep him for $4 mil.... And remind him how Clay Bennett is 2 faced see Sonicsgate
Then you break out the contract w Magic and Kobe and Phil Nike owner urging him to sign

My pipe dream ha

:o How do we get him?

I don't know if #2 Simgram (whoever is left), #2 Russell, #7 Randle, Nance Junior, and some 2nd rounders would get it done. Some guy at the bar last night (I sound like Jimmy Buss ha) kept shouting that's what the Lakers should do. He said Davis and KD would be the best duo since Shaq and Kobe and they would have all kinds of cap space for a 3rd big 3 member or for role players.

KLove was had for Wiggins and bust awful player Bennett. The Lakers offer looks a lot better to me.

Singram + Russell + Randle would get the job done i think (maybe even Singram + Russell). It is a quality package, though i doubt the pels deal him unless Davis knows and wants out

Who knows where durant goes at this point. But for those who say we lose on the money issue, should think first. We paid and paid, and some said we overpaid our superstar. While OKC got rid of a key championship piece for fear of paying. Heck, harden may have been the difference this year in defeating Gstate. Players take note of that stuff. When it comes to winning vs budgeting. Some teams and organizations are not that serious about winning.

All accts are Harden was traded because

1. Wanted a much larger role on the team
2. Was already showing his ugly side that you see blossoming in Houston
3. Rumored he even felt he should be earning the most on the team.

It wasn't the money, as OKC was willing to pay, it was the demands he had been making. They had internal issues regarding this too but kept it hush until AFTER the trade went through.
2014: Randle / Clarkson

A one and one for KD in OKC might not be the worst thing to happen for the Lakers. Moves the critical moment of truth to next off season. Keep all the capspace, dont sign any big long term contracts. Keep Clarkson. Keep developing Russell, Ingram, Randle and Clarkson.

Next offseason the Lakers can become a very promising destinations with the ability to sign 2 superstar free agents and trade 2 of the young core with possibly a pick for a 3rd superstar and still be able to keep some good young prospects to fill out the team.

I think that's the most likely scenario. Ingram hasn't even played yet. The Lakers young core hasn't made any noise yet.

Hopefully by 2017 off season free agents will look at the Lakers like Shaq looked at the Lakers in '96 and how LeBron looked at the Cavs in '14. They have some good young players. I can be the man. I'm coming.

I'm alright with developing our youngs until next season. I like that plan a lot. That FA pool is insane. So we better be just a little bit good by then to attract a few.

One thing. If we sign Conley and/or Whiteside this season, we might have a chance at Durant. If we don't, I don't think we stand a chance. Slightly overpaid this year will mean middle of the road or below next season when offers will skyrocket. We can trade both of them away by then if we want. Many seismic roster shifts will occur next summer, pieces will move. Conley and Whitside can be very movable pieces if we don't overpay by too much,

2 issues I see with this plan:

1) Does Jim have that luxury?

2) Im looking at the 2017 FA, and I dunno. 1)Steph Curry. Ok he's going nowhere, and we all know it. 2)Russ Westbrook. Our best chance, but is he coming here if there's nobody else, and we're this 28-35 win team? 3) Blake Griffin. Overrated chode, who can't do anything but dunk. And that athleticism will start to wane soon, making him a basically worthless Clipper (aka: a Clipper). 4)Giannis Ante-Somethingsomething. Cool...best of luck to him. 5) Chris Paul. He's a Grandpa now, isn't he? 6) Rudy Gobert. 9-points 11-rebounds..didn't take a 3 all season. I'll pass. 7) Gordon Hayward. Oh Boy. 8) Kyle Lowry. I decent consolation if we dont get Westbrook, otherwise, we dont need him. Is anyone excited by swapping Russell for Lowry? Like genuinely into it? 9) Dennis Schroeder. Another PG, and for the record, he's a guy who can't leapfrog Teague as a starter. You know Teague...the middle of the road PG. 10) Danilo Gallinari. No excitement there. 11) Paul Milsap. Woulda loved to get him in 2007, not 2017. 12) Victor Oladipo. *crickets*. 13) Derrick Rose. *Crickets interrupted by the sound of something else snapping in his knee*. 14) Jeff Teague. Hey! There's that middle of the road PG I was talking about. 15) Serge Ibaka. Let's just sign the Thunder here...and watch them come Oh-so-close in person! 16) Steven Adams. (see comment on Ibaka). ......and so on.

If people wanna wait for the 2017 season to save them......that's the top 16 FA's available. Would be great to get Westbrook, but other than that, there ain't much doing it for me. I argue that staying stagnant is not how your gonna attract Westbrook. And if we do wait, and Westbrook and Durant resign (aka TAKE THE MONEY), how sad do we look standing there with our * in our hand, eh? Oh boy.....2 more years of paying out the ying-yang to watch players develop.

I dont wanna toss this pick away for something 2-bit....But if we can make something happen with this pick in a trade, and it makes us more attractive to this years FA list, I say go for it. I just don't see the A-list that some do from this 2017 list. I see a grip of guys who are gonna get massively overpaid for what they are actually worth.

Best team I can think of...
Luke tall/small ball hybrid

Westbrook 6-3
3'Angelo 6-5
Ingram 6-10
Durant/Randle 6-10
Greek Freak 6-11 can play point

That would be a championship team and fun to watch. I know it's a dream, but like Ali said you have to believe it to achieve it. Now let's rebuild both through the draft and a big 3 while the young guys are on cheap rookie contracts

Even without Durant. Sign Westbrook and Greek Freak (they both seem getable if the Lakers set themselves up correctly). Trade Russell, Randle, #3 Pick (?) for Cousins.

Westbrook
Clarkson
Ingram
Greek Freak
Cousins

As to the Buss situation. I think the timeline is being overblown and the family is smart enough to make moves thats best for the organization moving forward.

Giannis will be restricted and theres no way the bucks let him walk. He's the greatest thing to happen to that team in YEARS.

Cousins will be a free agent in two years (unrestricted) We might as well wait it out and develop the young guys to see if they have the star potential. If they do have the star potential, then we can easily sign cousins without losing any valuable assets. Same can be said for Paul George, etc.

If Durant leaves OKC but doesn't come to Lakers i hope he goes East so we can quit seeing lebron waltz to the NBA finals due to lack of competition.
