Warspite:
Prince + filler for Kobe Bryant
To be honest the way Prince has played and with Kobes injury/age/mileage Im not sure I would do that deal either. Still Prince is more important and he wins the head to head battles with Kobe.

Jeannie's statement kind of indicates she's upto something like taking full control of the ownership.

I agree with Slava. It's unfortunate because I like her and Phil as people and wish them the best, but they are adults and know what they are doing.
On the bright side, this definitely means Jim is out of operations.

I think it means Phil is definitely and finally out of the Lakers future...
To me this says hard choices have been made and this solidifies the FO makeup as is. More so with the team seemingly being on the right track with the future looking positive. Jeanie would look like a fool to start making big changes now or forcing people out
The whole Jeanie Phil thing since day one was about as unprofessional as could be.
The only door this may open with Phil out of the long term picture is Jerry West coming back in some level of consultation. Not sure of his contract status up north.

Re: Jeanie and Phil end their engagement
It was always a strange relationship as relationships go. If your committed you get married if not you don't.
While I don't know either of them my only connection to their relationship is not wanting Phil to return in a decision making position. This seems to close that door.

Who cares?
Is this TMZ?
Jeanie is destroying the Lakers from within and Phil is just history. Move on.

Re: Jeanie and Phil end their engagement
Jeanie does marketing and business. She is doing an amazing job considering what her brother Jim did to the team.
I think Phil would have brought a title to the Lakers in 12-13. Jim turned down Bynum for Bosh. He chose DAntonie over Phil. He passed on ProzinGOD. Ultimately Jims choices lead Phil to NY and to the end of his sisters relationship due to distance. I think Jeanie has a rotten brother. I hope Jeanie uses fights for her first love: The Lakers.

What? She's almost single handedly turned the Lakers into a laughingstock... 'Please Stay, Howard" bilboards... Misspelling Shaq's retirement jersey... The marketing and business focus of free agent pursuits... The general rudderless responses to the Phil and Jim questions...
Jeanie has not done a good job at all... She's even more transparent as a child trying to fill her Father's shoes than Jim. Since she's taken over, the marketing of this team seems all disjointed and superficial.
The only bright point being the new training facility IMO...
Hopefully she gets a little more focused now that Phil is out of the picture.

Re: Jeanie and Phil end their engagement
I love Jeanie, but come on girl, it took Phil 13 years to ask you to marry him, then another 3 years after that and no wedding!?! Then your "fiance" moves to the other side of the country. Phil is 15 years older than her, I think it's time she moves on with her life. I'm just glad we don't have to worry about Phil coming back anymore. Bad day for Mark Heisler who was always trying to sell it to Lakers fans.
