the effort on defense isnt all too bad, whatever they are doing is just not effective/working.

Positives I saw were Zubac, Russell, and Clarkson looking like they already figured things out, though Zu is still raw, Russ can't sustain his play for long stretches, and JC still has a few forced isos.

Randle just looks like he lost interest.

Luke loves himself the Lou ball. Dude is the definition of fool's gold but coaches just can't help themselves around him.

even an average fan like me could tell: the young guys just dumped the ball to lou in the 4th to save their behind

hope the FO saw this, trade out lou and force the young guys to execute the offense for 48mins

So true. Young hoisting up 3s and the Lou foul baits are getting tiresome.

i was happy when Luke was hired but he made a mistake hiring Brian Shaw as his top assistant. i think Shaw is responsible for defense side of things.

Luke needed to bring top notch defensive ace like Ron Adams as his assitant.

Luke is the head coach. He's responsible for the defense. An assistant is just that.

just like how Kerr is responsible for GSW defense and not ron adams? or like how Casey is responsible for defense in Toronto and MDA in Houston?

Luke is the HEAD coach. If he truly was upset with the defensive play HE would change it. If that means that he doesn't even think about the defense and it's all on Shaw then if he was upset or displeased he'd replace Shaw.

It's easy for fans to compartmentalize offense and defense but the reality of coaching is that the head coach sets the priorities and gauges performance. He makes adjustments and realigns based on results.

As you have noted in trying to only blame Shaw...... he's not putting an emphasis on defense at this time that is evident in the play on the court. I'm just saying that maybe Shaw is here to assist with the defense (that was assistants do) but the ultimate responsibility for setting the tone is on the HEAD coach not an assistant.
