Re: Lakers director of basketball analytics resigns
Again, this is Magic and Rob putting their stamp on the restructuring of the organization after what they've seen for several months. They're going to be bringing the best people on, I don't think that's a question.

So this does indeed seem to be a case of Magic planning to beef up the analytics department. Positive early signs.

Great news
Instead of operating with a single scouting unit, the Lakers will organize into four tiers: college, international, NBA and the NBA Development League (rechristened as the G-League as of the 2017-18 season

If nothing else, Pelinka seems to be a guy who knows and understands the importance of organizational structure.

Re: Lakers director of basketball analytics resigns
I don't think any of this is coming from Pelinka despite his name being first in the article.
The idea that he would have any idea one way or the other about these matters seems far fetched to me.
Magic on the other hand would have some insight. I think this is all coming from him.
I think this is all an effort to root out 30 years of loyalty to Mitch. And I think there are going to be a lot more people let go.
And like the other moves, I really don't care... Although I will say, that our Scouting would seem to have been pretty solid lately.
I'm not going to pay attention to any of this. But I'm still expecting us to be in the conversation for the playoffs next season... 8th seed or better is the bar they've set for themselves and I'll hold them to it. How they get there doesn't really matter too much to me.

Re: Lakers director of basketball analytics resigns
Well if you accept Magic/Jeannie at face value, they're essentially clearing house because the Lakers weren't winning. There have been a lot of messages but the main theme is "Getting back to Lakers Winning Basketball."
Since anything between the lottery and the playoffs is pretty much considered losing around the league and especially according to what Magic and Jeannie have said repeatedly over the last few years, it seems like the measure of success for this team is the playoffs...
Maybe if we keep the pick and add another rookie like Ball, and don't make any other moves and make a big deal about developing our young core, they might be able to get away with another non-playoff season...
But I don't see them doing/accepting that... So I don't see how anything less than the playoffs would be considered a success for this effort.
