Do the lakers need another pg?

Post#1 » by TKainZero » Thu May 18, 2017 4:31 pm

With the likely addition of ball, and still having Russell and Clarkson that can play mins at pg, is there a need for another pg for the rotation?

Would the lakers be better severed running the 3 young guys exclusively at pg? Or should they sign a vet pg and have them as a stabilizing force?

Or just keep nwaba as backup pg and he can play the 3&d role at pg with Russell/Clarkson at sg being the primary ball handler?

Do you feel like the lakers need another rotational PG (not depth pg) in addition to ball/Russell/Clarkson?

Nwaba as backup PG? What? ;-)
We dont need even Lonzo. Russell as PG and Ennis as backup is enough.

Nope. I just remember that In his 2nd year Russell with one of the worst s4 (SG-SF-PF-C) in league create lineup which was +6.7/100 or similar against opponent starters, when Calderon or Ingram were -30. Seriously he did this with only one shooter (Swaggy). Problem was that he has to play with players without legit 3pt or bbIQ (Clarkson, Randle).

I like Luke, but i hate fact that Russell has to play next to Randle entire season. DLO-Ingram-Nance-Zubac spent together 30 min entire season.

Sadly, Clarkson is a horrible point guard, and only really looks to get himself going. He's just a below average scoring threat and is probably a goner this offseason. He's eating up too much cap space for such a limited role/impact.

If we go with Ball, I don't see why we need another point guard. Russell and Ball are combo guards with point guard skills, we'll probably bring back Ennis, and then we'll have Nwaba. for defensive purposes. If anything, we could use another shooter at the 1.

Ennis if we can sign him (due to the weird amount we are only able to pay contractually) would be a good cheap signing.

Clarkson isn't a point guard. Watch any video from lakers film room to see a good analysis of how he just doesnt know how to initiate the offense and attack defensive schemes. He's a drive and kick passer.

I guess it depends on whether or not they decide to bring Ennis back. It's definitely not a priority assuming we draft Ball. Clarkson is best served as a back up 2. Maybe you use him at the 3 in certain small ball sets, but honestly, there's no reason for him to be forced to initiate an offense at this point.

I'd love Rubio if he's available but only for a reasonable price. Like i said if Deng for Rubio was possible (would be terrible for Minnesota but purely hypothetically), then we move on Mozgov and Clarkson with the 28th. Then yeah i'd say we'd be a lot better for it.

Agree....but I didn't think anyone considered Clarkson a PG.

You know...I like Clarkson. But he is what he is: A 2nd round pick, that I think is a good scoring threat off the bench. Ask him to do more, and your looking for trouble. He's a good scorer off the bench. A nice pick up for the 2nd round....and we slightly over-paid him this second contract.....although not that much.

If we trade him....I wont lose a moments sleep....but I do think the guy has some value. You just gotta stop asking so much of him. He's a scorer. Let the guy score. Just make sure he's not a starter.

id like to see a ball handling playmaker off the bench (tj mcconnel a FA soon?). maybe ennis sticks around and he becomes that guy? but if we cant find that, then our bench really needs to commit to ball movement w/ off-ball cutting.

and iggy type player (or iggy himself) would be nice too.

If we have Ball, Ennis and Russell (and Clarkson, for that matter), another point guard is just a waste of roster space.
