Re: Welcome to the Lakers Brook Lopez!
I like this trade. Now convert JC, Deng, 2nd rounder to Melo and move Randle, 27th 28th for George.

I think anytime anyone says the Lakers should trade for Melo, they should have a tooth forcefully extracted with rusty pliers... No painkillers, mind you... None.

Re: Welcome to the Lakers Brook Lopez!
Would Ball - PG - Ingram - Melo - Brook // Ennis - Young - Nwaba - Nance - Zubac be really that bad? Could swap Young for Brandon so Ingram can handle the second team and Young plays as 3D player.

Agree. It's going to be interesting as it is, seeing PG work in a "ball movement" system (does this spell the end for Walton??) but you add Melo in there, and it's gonna be absolutely nightmarish. Your gonna have to cut the ball in half.
Personally hope we dont trade for George. Use 27th, 28th to try and move Deng. Throw Clarkson or our 2nd-rounder in there if that makes it happen. And let's get PG for nothing (and on a cheaper contract!) next year. That gives Ingram, Ball, Zubac, Nance, Randle a chance to grow even more first. Then we can pick up PG and another top$$ player.
We take it from there.

Re: Welcome to the Lakers Brook Lopez!
Anyone hearing Lopez could be going to Houston in a 3-way deal?

Hearing Rockets might just end up with B. Lopez as part of George to LA trade. Player affords them both short term boost and flexibility

Re: Welcome to the Lakers Brook Lopez!
Posted this in the T&T board, but thought I would add it here, as it has some shocking Lopez stats.
I absolutely love the premise of this trade for the Lakers, but really wish that it had been done without Russell, such as splitting the #2 pick into multiple assets and then sending some to complete this deal and keeping some for themselves or sending them on for George. I just feel that Russell will exceed his current value by a lot, which makes this trade less appealing to me.
However, on to why I like the premise of this deal. Obviously the future cap flexibility is great and I don't need to belabor that point. I really, really like getting Lopez. I understand that he is by no means perfect as a player, but even with his weaknesses I don't see a better offensive center in the league today, especially now that he has added a competent 3 point game to his arsenal (and since last year was his 1st year taking any number of 3s I am hopeful that he will get even better than his 35% last year). I don't think his offensive game can be denied, but just to review, the Nets were 3.8 pts per 100 possessions better with him on the court than off. Even more amazing after what one Nets fan in particular is saying, last year the Nets were actually 1.1 points per 100 possessions better with Lopez on the court than off! So adding those totals up, the Nets were a net of 4.9 points better overall with Lopez on the court than off.
Here is where it gets even more shocking considering Brook's stats. With Brook on the court the Nets corralled 74.4% of the available defensive rebounds, but with him off the court they only gathered in 71.2% of defensive rebounds! So shockingly, the Nets were a better defensive rebounding team with Brook on the court. I really like Brook a lot, but even I was surprised by that.
Add in that Brook is a local kid, and I very much hope that he has the vision to re-up on a 1+1 (player option) deal at a below market level. Then after the Lakers cap out in 18 he can opt out and resign at a market level deal. After so many years of losing, I am very hopeful that Brook will look to do that to remain with his hometown Lakers when they are poised to become true contenders.

Brook is being criminally under valued here, here is a follow up looking at Brook's stats from 15-16:
Wow, it gets even more surprising when you look at the stats from 15-16. The Nets were only 3.3 pts per 100 possessions better on offense with Lopez on versus off. On defense though they were a stunning 7.3 pp100 better with him on versus off. Even more shockingly they grabbed 75.2% of available defensive rebounds with him on, but only 69.5% with him off the court.

Re: Welcome to the Lakers Brook Lopez!
It appears that there is truth to the stance that he boxes out well allowing teammates to get rebounds, I always thought that was just an excuse Nets fans made, but it looks like it may be true. Randle could become an even bigger rebounding beast, for a case study see Kris Humphries. It is possible that Brook's box outs made him millions of dollars.

I'm actually annoyed reading all of these casual and mainstream fans trash him endlessly. It's a pathetic example of lack of knowledge and basketball ignorance.
Lopez is a flawed guy because he's been involved in so much losing and our previous ownerships penny pinching nature hindered his development.
Regardless of what people think about Prokhorov because of King. He did want a winner but he also wanted Lopez and Williams to thrive. The only guy who showed up under the King era was Lopez. He's a professional and a great person. Met him at comic con in Manhattan before and he's a genuine regular down to earth guy who enjoys basketball and entertainment.
Won 49 games when he was named an all-star reserve and he's got a 5-8 record in all his playoff appearances. Like I posted in the GB board, 21/8/23 PER/55.5 TS% in playoff games against Noah/Horford. He'll be a weak PnR defender but if the Lakers add Paul George. Lopez is a must have inside.
He will have frustrating nights of aggression or lack thereof but he's also going to have weird but fun games where he blocks 7 shots and makes 5 threes. He'll be a great sidekick similar to Bosh in Miami or Love in Cleveland. That's the type of all-star caliber big man he is. A nice third piece.

There's like 2% chance we might re-sign him though, the lure of his contract expiring is what brought us there. If we end up re-signing him in 2018 it would be because we couldn't get our primary free agent targets.

Some highlights from last season, and a good overview of what to expect from Brook in positive contributions.

FWIW despite all my gloom of losing D'Angelo, I've long been a fan of Brook Lopez's game and think he'd be a very good frontcourt partner for Nance and Ingram.

Don't be so sure, Brook shot 35% from NBA 3 range against NBA D in his first year taking them surrounded by no other scorers or great passers. I expect him to shoot 37-40% this year. Ball on the other hand shot 41% from the college 3 range against college D. I will be shocked if Lopez doesn't have the best 3% on this team next year unless we acquire George, or another legit shooter.
