Raymond Lewis from Los Angeles. I grew up in LA and used to hear stories about this guy back in the 90s at the local basketball parks. People in Compton, Watts, and Long Beach would swear by this guy. He was drafted by the Sixers in the same year that Doug Collins was drafted first overall by the Sixers. Lewis thought (knew) that he was demonstrably better than Collins and consistantly dropped 70+ points on Collins in scrimmages.
He was blackballed from the league and played in summer pro-ams in LA for the rest of his 20s. Per Bleacher Report:
"That's about the time he just started taking out his frustrations on players in pick-up games on playgrounds and in Pro-Am leagues throughout L.A. I mean, he was 29 years old an averaged 54 points per game in summer leagues.
He went to the Spurs' camp and scored 63 and 81 points. Why wouldn't you want a scorer like that on your team?"
Here's a short video on the guy.

Re: Greatest that never was?
So sad players like him never played in the NBA. I remember when I watched the film Rebound: The Legend of Earl "The Goat" Manigault. Plus the guy drafted by the Lakers, Joe Hammond. Maybe, just maybe, if these guys made it in the NBA things will be different. Because back then they compete also with NBA players outside the NBA arena. The Goat VS Wilt was shown in the film and I read an article about The Destroyer Hammond dropping 50 on Doctor J in a game.
