Cuz no **** nobody was taking that contract AND giving up a lottery pick. But if some-one was willing to take Moz for DLO, then sure as **** someone would have taken DLO for a top 15 pick without taking back the worst contract in the league. The fact that we didn't push for pick #22 instead of #27 from brooklyn shows me proof we rushed the trade. Brooklyn wanted a potential young star, and clearly believe in DLO, we could have gotten #22.
Dude, the fact that we got any pick back was a stroke of genius from Magic and Rob. Mozgov and his contract was radioactive. Houston would of have to have traded two first round picks to move Ryan Anderson's contract and he's actually a good player. Dlo's value wasn't that high across the league
I dont care if we kept Mozgov until he was an expiring. thats what Im saying. I don't see the long term benefit of trading him. We aren't going to beat the warriors so I"d rather pile on assets for two years while developing the young players. I was referring to the value we'd get for DLO while KEEPING mozgov. Mozgov could have been stretched to 6.5 mil per year. With some additional creativity that'd give us the cap space to sign PG while keeping DLO or trading DLO for more multiple picks. Heck even if we didn't have cap space, at that point in time we could get creative and make cap space to sign PG the way Houston did to get Cp3. I'm sure there are ways to do it.
I've realized what the controversy boils down to is some lakers fans want to instant rebuild (no patience to wait out the bad contracts, willing to give up future assets for cap space to sign stars NOW). Whenever organizations try this it hardly works unless you're signing a prime Lebron James or Kevin Garnett. The other camp of Lakers fans have the patience to slow rebuild by not rushing to give away assets or only give them when you SELL HIGH, the way a team like the Warriors rebuilt themselves.MelosSoreWrist wrote:It was both. FO didnt like DLO's personality, character etc. They gave him a thorough look through and they just didnt want him around the team for another year. It looks hurried to us but they apparently made up their mind. I got this from a local sports media member who got it from Jim Hill who is close with the front office. So third hand information, so take it for what its worth.
Considering magic slept with millions of women as a player, and cheated on his wife to do it, and yet he became an all time laker great, why does he think someone with bad character can't be a great player at least for one season long enough to pad his stats to trade for a higher value? His bad character being on our team half a season more or one more season isn't going to poison us.
Paul George is all but begging to be on the Lakers. The odds are against any of our young guys becoming as good as Paul George is now. You don't pass up your chance to grab George and pair him with a superstar next off-season just for some antiquated love for D'angelo Russell. If we miss out so be it, at least we gain more flexibility by moving Mozgov and we got some assets in return for Russell.
