Two-Way Contracts

What are they? Google is the best answer I can give you. But the short answer is they're more beneficial to teams than players but give players some financial stability. They are viewed as a way to make the G-League more like the minor league and persuade players that the G-League is a better option than playing overseas.

From what I've read, (please correct me if I'm wrong):

Teams can now have up to two additional roster spots for these contracts. So now teams can have 17 players on their roster.

Players on these contracts can not play more than 45 NBA games per season.

D League players make $26,000 or $20,000
Two-Way Contracts offer $75,000 Guaranteed
With a max of up to $275,000

These can only be offered to players with less than 3 years of NBA experience.

I think this is a great development in the NBA and allows teams more opportunities to gamble on potential w/o other teams scooping up the player from under them. A few of these have already been signed around the league and I think this gives the platform for high-school graduates, to comfortably pass on the NCAA and make a living in the G-League until they're called up.

All that to say these guys on the end of our summer league roster. Caruso, Thomas, Blue, York, Wear, etc. We should be paying extra attention to them. I'm pretty sure Rob and Magic will look to take advantage of these roster spots and seek out some potential role players for our squad.

If I was Rob and Magic I would also be scouting other teams as well. But they're definitely going to be doing that. Maybe 1 two-way contract for a player from our summer league team and leave the other spot open for a while.
