He tore his achellees shortly after that game trying to do too much. Especially the 48mins per game streak while guarding the other teams best players such as Kyrie and CP3.

As great as it was to see Kobe ‘will’ his team to the play-offs. It was definitely the wrong choice. Since Kobe wasn’t around to help the team in those play-offs. And because Kobe was never the same after that.

Coach D’Antonie was an idiot for allowing Kobe to play back2back2back2back2back2back2back near 48 min games

He used Kobe as a crutch to get over the Nash injury that he botched it. Phil never would have allowed that.

The 2013 highlights show the heart and determination of my fav Laker. But are a cautionary tale of what not to do next time have an all time great at age 33.

The Toronto game in 2013 was pure magic though.

Whenever I see a Kobe video, it reminds me that we might never see another player that's capable of getting everyone watching to simultaneously swear at the tv in disbelief

The legend of Phil. Phil most certainly did lean on Kobe. Do you not remember several seasons earlier where Kobe played with the cartilage in his knee gone? Why do you think he went and did all that plasma stuff in Germany? Remember the season or two with his two fingers taped together, cause the pinky was a limp wreck? The game Kobe had that massively dislocated finger, and then had it popped in, and then went back in?

Kobe averaged 38.6 minutes that season, but played 38.5 minutes the year before. Lebron is 33, and playing 37 minutes a game right now. Nobody thinks twice about it, and nobody would dare tweak Lebrons minutes. Just like there's no way D'antoni was gonna defy Kobe and make him sit.

Truth is, Kobe wore himself out. Do you remember the terrible sprain he had a few weeks earlier. I forget who did it, but he said it was on purpose. "He Jalen Rosed me" was Kobe's comment after the game. That sprain...and Kobe playing on it (and doing everything slightly different) was what prob did it.

But let's not forget the many, many 40+ minute seasons...the 3 extra seasons worth of playoffs. The 4am workouts. The 200 mile bike rides before a team USA game, and all the other super crazy sh__ Kobe did on a regular basis.

Phil most certainly rode him.....but thats because Kobe woulda had him fired if he would have made him sit more.

Sorry man....but I think D'antoni got one of the rawest deals here, and was the scape-goat for EVERYTHING. Kobe wore himself to the bone (literally in the case with his knees) and still went out and did ridiculous 3-hour workouts before the regular workout just to maintain some sort of crazy mental edge. Day after day for dozens of years. Sorry.....but those 5-6 games of extra minutes were but a drop in a super-tanker.
