Also if Deng is willing to take less amount than his full salary on a buyout it could make eating his deal more attractive to teams too.
Deng signals he's willing to take a buyout on his new team as he wants to goto a contender or a certain team. We trade Deng to Team X for a smaller bad contract. Deng and Team X negotiate a 30m buyout of Deng's remaining contract. Deng's dead money hit to his new team would instead be 15m a year, that level of savings makes Deng more attractive to trade for. Deng go and signs somewhere he wants to play and everyone is happy.
Lakers take a smaller bad deal, lose an asset(s), but gains several more mil in cap room.
Team X loses a small bad deal, gain an asset(s), and pays less for it in $$$ terms.
Deng gets the vast majority of his money owed and can finally play some meaningful BBall again.

Under this $30M buyout scenario, the Sacramento Kings would be an ideal trade partner, IMO. They could trade Shumpert for Deng, Cleveland 1st and a future Laker 1st or 2nd.
Lakers stretches Shumpert at $3.67 for only 3 years, instead of $3.3M Deng at 11 years.
Sacramento gets 2 more draft picks for their rebuild while only adding $4M more in 2018, but they take a $15M hit in 2019. I don't see them willing to help the Lakers out but this would be a great deal for LA.

He's a smart player, a veteran. I believe Luke was honest about that. Deng is overpaid, not dumb nor totally worthless on the court even. I'm sure he'd contribute full effort if given a chance but he's on lockout.
Not Deng's fault that Jimmy was a total idiot signing him to that deal. If I were him, I'd discuss a buyout immediately so I could play.
