Dennis Lindsey has been brilliant in Utah.

You get "Executive of the year" for you what you do within a time-frame called a year. I'm a big Lakers fan and I like what he has done, but I think the par would have been making the playoffs. So no prize for him...
As for the others mentioned in the thread, hearing Hinkie's name is a joke. It might look like Philadelphia is in a good place, but come on...
It took them 5 years of being horrible on purpose, or at least as bad as they could, to accumulate assets...

To quote a famous Rajon Rondo quote: since when do we celebrate being a 5th seed in the playoffs ?!?

I think judgement should be made while taking into consideration what tools you have at your disposal:
- current roster
- cap situation
- direction moving forward
- how close your are to actually winning a championship

Daryl Morey probably has the best team right now, but he also had a lot of things at his disposal. Chris Paul forced that trade as much as it was the GM's work. Other additions were based on the relationships with the players on the roster.

Danny Ainge had a good base to begin with, to his own merit, and all his moves have been productive. Signing Hayward, who got injured in the first game, is not a positive from a GM point of view. Trading guys, drafting and signing the right FA's is what counts. This is more of a transition year for them, with 3 starters being injured at the moment (Irving, Brown, Hayward), and two others undergoing surgery.

Kevin Pritchard inherited a tense situation and a roster still evolving, and he got very good value back for Paul George. Not only were they good young players, but they've kept improving, and so have the other young players on the team. Great job, but not the best.

Dennis Lindsey probably had the least to work with, not in terms of talent on the roster, but from a psychological point of view: losing Hayward was a blow, and Free Agents don't really choose Utah. Rodney Hood has not performed well, and the move he had made before losing Hayward made less sense without him on the roster.
Finding talent that fits, empowering current players to evolve, getting rid of who doesn't fit... that's a great job. I think going into the playoffs, Utah will be very dangerous. I'd say the most dangerous of the all the teams on the upswing.
The award should go to Lindsey.

Yeah but what hinkie did was fairly spectacular. He literally turned water into wine. If coleangelo hadnt come in and murdered their rebuild they'd be sitting on a war chest of assets right now. He drafted terrible players, traded all their remaining future picks, squandered all their cap space, and allowed their roster trade value to drop to Zero.

No, only if they made the playoffs, so no. Next year hopefully!

Winning should be in the discussion and I dont see the Lakers making the playoffs so that hurts Pelinkas chances.
