You think there was actually a chance he'd come back if asked to?

There are things during that era that I regret alot more. Signing Nash for instance. The CP fiasco. Losing Dr Buss, and having Jim run the show. The new CBA. Never getting anything for Pau....not recognizing we were in a rebuild. Resigning Kobe to that stupid contract and trying to play it off like we were gonna get another star, and they'd get it done.

D'antoni has shown he's a pretty good coach....but still needs to prove he can win a title. He was such a wrong fit for us at that time. Phil would have done better.

Mike Brown was whatever. Seemed like a really nice guy. Great....let' go have a beer sometime. Don't coach my team. He came and went so fast, I harbor no bad feelings.

Well, I think Brown did a good job in the shortened lockout season, we lost in semis to the Thunder in a series we should have won (we choked both in Game 2 and 4), that team I think was fun to watch and well coached. However, the team pressed the panic button in just 4 games, that was too early IMO. MDA took over an unbalanced roster and finished the season strong,we were one of the NBA top teams when Kobe tore his Achilles. Two good coaches but they kinda underperformed.

He was considering it. I remember that his decision would depend on negotiations with him and Lakers. He was surprised when they chose MDA because Phil thought they would wait for his response. So yeah I think there was a chance.

The regrettable part for me is the criticism and hate he got for the role he gave Pau. Pau has basically played the same role since on every team he’s been on, which is same role everyone tries to get their bigs to play, guess MDA was too early on that.

Best contribution was exposing Dwight’s reluctance to be the pick n roll big he needed to be instead of his hard headed need to be a back to the basket center.

I don’t regret losing Mike Brown or Dantoni. I would rather currently have Luke over either of them.

We were still in “Championship or bust” mode when we got both Brown and D’Antoni.

Brown was a very smart and capable coach, but didn’t have the intangibles to bring home a championship.

We should have hired Phil back instead of D’antoni. D’antoni, can only coach one way, and we didn’t have the personell to run his system. He ran Kobe into the ground, lost Pau, Dwight ruined himself, and Nash was nothing.

Phil was the only one with any chance of making something of that season, and even then I don’t think we win anything. The team just wasn’t mentially capable of wining that year. Mainly (although I was blinded at the time) there was just no coaching Dwight. He clearly didn’t like being in LA, and was never going to buy Into a role that would have us win games. Although I do have to give him credit for playing hurt. Most guys would not have played through what he did

I think both brown and dantoni were decent coaches but they just came at the wrong time ; we were coming out of a golden era.
