realgm the Lakers process

Post#1 » by snaquille oatmeal » Sun Apr 15, 2018 7:21 pm

ok so we know that the boring summer (in basketball terms) is here when threads like this start to pop up

ok so here is the game, try and guess what will happen with our team this summer. you got certain land mark events where you need to make a decision and once you make it and you are right you get a point, but if you are wrong you can't go back and change it. who ever has the most points at the final land mark even wins. remember this is not about what you would do as much as what you think is going to happen.

land mark events

May 15
NBA Draft Lottery (Chicago) (pick # 10)
our pick remains where we landed and Boston doesn't get it

June 21
2018 NBA Draft (Cavs pick # 24)
we pick another draft steal, one that is not on anybody's RADAR (not even mine)

July 1: First day of new league year, free agent moratorium begins allowing teams to negotiate with players and reach verbal agreements

George agrees to play with Lakers, Resign Julius on 10 to 15 mil, Lopes on the cheap for one year, IT on the cheap for one year.

July 6: Moratorium ends to start free agency and trades
no Deng trade

July 13: Deadline for teams to revoke qualifying offers to RFAs
Julius resign with Lakers

mind you i'm making up this game as I type so it may not be perfect and rules might change to make it better as we go!
suggestions welcomed!

Not so fast The will try and re-sign Randle back, and trade Deng to get them off the books completely.

May 15 comes and I don't care because it's not going to affect the Lakers..... Will read about what happens here and will be reminded of the folly that was the Nash and Howard trades..... will have to start drinking again.

June 21st comes and we draft someone.... or we trade the pick to someone... or we trade players and the pick to someone and receive players and pick(s) from someone....

July 1st comes..... and goes.... the guys we want schedule a string of high profile dinners set up by endorsement PR people and their agents to get maximum buzz out of entertaining signing here or there.

Randle gets 18-20 Million offer for 4 years from Dallas.

July 5 to 8th agree with a FA.... probably PG

July 13th. The lakers decline to match Dallas' offer to Randle.

We sign a few vets to round out the roster and rename the rebuild the 2019 plan....

The "wish" one is this...

Lebron and PG agree immediately.

We trade Ingram and Deng for picks and a vet.

We match any offer to Randle.

We sign a few vet "hangers on" to one year contracts and take a shot at the title.....

When and how, I don’t know. Popp is pushed into a corner by Leonard’s peeps. He loves Ingram and Randle and also Deng’s huge don... expiring. Leonard S&T for Ingram, Zubac, Deng, 2019 2RP. Fillers and cash as needed. That’s my story :-)

Snaq: There should be odds attached to idiotic guesses like this one. Lol

PG: BALL / HART / CARUSO
SG: LEONARD / HART / A INGRAM
SF: KUZMA / LEONARD / our #10 pick
PF: RANDLE / WEAR / our #47 pick
C: LOPEZ / BRYANT / vet

If Randle S&T...

PG: BALL / HART / CARUSO
SG: LEONARD / HART / A INGRAM
SF: B INGRAM / KUZMA / our #10 pick
PF: KUZMA / WEAR / our #47 pick
C: NURKOVIC / BRYANT / vet
NBA titles since the merger: LAL 11, CHI 6, SAS 5, BOS 5, GSW 4.

What is with the Ingram trades?

I'd sooner give up Randle than Ingram

Me, too. But if we’re talking a fully healthy Leonard and Deng’s contract... Pop would ask for BI or do a S&T for LBJ or ship Leonard to the east coast.

Ingram for anything less than a current all star? Never, if you ask me.

That I understand, I was referring to the crappy salary dump trades to clear space to retain Randle.

I wouldn't even do it for just a current all star, it'd have to a top 5 player with years and prime left on the clock - Davis, Giannis, Kawhi.

Yep, I’m with you, but if Deng is included in the deal I’d have to consider AS level impact star players outside of that top five.

I figured you thought so and I agree. He’s a future beast. BI is the only player in the league that I’ve seen successfully taking it right to Giannis for a full game. Their stride is similarly freakish. It won’t be long until every fan sees what a beast BI will be. :-) It’ll be interesting to see how much he’ll bulk up over the summer.

I'd rather make up the difference between an all star and a superstar by paying the cost to dump Deng separately, than miss out on a superstar because we decided to factor dumping Deng in the same deal as well

On one hand, you be dealing with a different team with different priorities, instead of one trying to take as much of your young talent as possible

I can hang with that. Currently, looking into the cloudy crystal ball, we have four future stars in our young ranks: Ball, Ingram, Kuzma, Randle. The one out of those three who perhaps doesn’t have top 5 potential is Randle, and he’s a proven 20-10 player. Then there’s Josh Hart, and this year’s draft.

Point being, why the ... trade them away unless for someone who’s already at their projected max future level?

“Trust the progress”, should be our line.

honestly any talk about an Ingram deal, for me better start with the best of young talent from around the league, otherwise i don't really want to talk about it. Philly isn't dealing Simmons, The Bucks aren't dealing Giannis (different league though) nor at the Suns dealing Booker. That's the level i think we should treat Ingram at, obviously his play doesn't justify that status yet, but realistically, he'll be averaging 20PPG next year.

I agree. Kawhi — in pre injury form, which is a huge caveat — is in the Giannis group despite his “age”, but I still won’t do it unless it rids us Deng at the same time. I’d hate to see Ingram go. Same with Randle even if to a lesser degree. He is already a 20 ppg scorer. The two of them together is a tough cover.

———————

I’m comfortable keeping the band together. If we stay put with our core: Ball, Hart, Ingram, Kuzma, Randle, I’m pretty certain we make the playoffs next season no matter if we sign any stars. Any move we make that trades one of the young five away had better promise to make us WC contenders or we might as well not make a trade.

Man, if Ingram and Randle both develop a decent three point shot this summer...
