So if Zubac has done enough to trust him (LOL), then wouldn’t you say that Lonzo has done enough to not draft another pg, Hart had done enough not to draft another sg, Ingram had done enough not to draft another sf, Kuzma has done enough not to draft another pf.....
Considering the team has more promising players at every other position, and is targeting star wings in free agency, seems to make sense they wouldn’t rule out taking a big man.
Difference is we have Zubac and Bryant from 2 consecutive years. Clearly if we've got bigger fish to fry than drafting centre year after year, we need depth at both guard positions as well as S.F. more than we need another project centre.
Depending on who the Lakers sign in free agency. Both LeBron and George can overlap SF along with Ingram. And all three of these guys can make the PG position more of a SG function. Gotta think more in terms of function for the team rather than position. And potential matchups with the elite. And in that respect I think the Lakers lack a rim protector.
This is why I’d rather see us get a rim protecting and screen setting Capela or Nurkic and add filler veterans at 1, 2, 3 (Rondo, T Evans, Ariza) behind our star youth. Then, and first then, add LBJ and/or George, (S&T Randle plus Zubac plus Deng’s expiring and a 2nd rounder to open up enough cap? If Randle goes where Deng goes, I’d like to have more horses in the young center race, too. I think he will.
Even without the two stars PG or LBJ, this team goes to the second round in the West and could easily catch fire in the playoffs:
PG: Lonzo, Rondo, Caruso
SG: Tyreke, Hart, Ingram
SF: Ingram, Ariza, Kuzma
PF: Kuzma, Randle, Bryant
(or: LBJ, Kuzma, Bryant)
C: Randle, Zubac, Robinson
(or: Capela/Lopez, Zubac, Bryant)
With LBJ and a legit C and a few role players (can only happen if Deng is traded), we could contend in the West next season.
