Is the team we got a play off team -with out star players??

Post#1 » by SlimShady83 » Mon Jun 25, 2018 8:00 am

Ok let's assume no FA's come this year and we keep pretty much the exact team from last year and let's hope that very few injuries happen this time around < last year was a tad too much.

To reach playoffs I think Lakers/we need to get 47 wins FOR 8TH SEED MAYBE MORE ??? And for the east its only 43 :waaa: :cuddle

Keep in mind that last year we had a tone of injuries

9 game losing streak - probably won't happen again, touch wood

we had a couple losing streaks 3-5 games in a row

lost some winnable games that should have won especially those double OT games and OT games

If those things get turned around and we won those games I felt like we could have been right there for 8th seed

So if nothing like that happens next season - do you guys think we'll make the play-offs if no FA's come?

just writing this out quick - something different I guess ;)

We’ll be in the playoffs if we just add the right fillers and keep our core. Add LBJ and it’s a lock.

And not even the Warriors would want to face a hungry young and confident Lakers team on a winning streak.

No chance, ok if Ingram was healthy, 40 wins i'd say, we'd still have a good 7-8 wins to make up, where does that come from exactly when the other teams are young themselves.

If we are injury free I feel we can make the playoffs. Like what EZ said lots of games that we could have won. I feel the same that if we only won those games we could be in the playoffs. This coming season I expect improvement so barring injuries my gut feel says we can make the playoffs.

I think so. Won 35, but advanced stats had our expected wins at 37. Had a lot go against us...

Ingram missed the last chunk of the season (people seem to have forgotten but the dude looked like an AS in Feb before he got hurt)

Lonzo missed a chunk of the season. For all his struggles shooting he did have a positive impact last year

Only gave Randle 26 min a night. (Ok, that was self inflicted)

If healthy, with a few decent vet additions, I think we’re in the 45-50 win range next year.
One year deals to Lopez, Reddick or Barton, and IT, and yeah, I think we’re absolutely right there in the playoff race.

If the stars don't align, we could stock up on short term value contracts and possibly retain Randle on the QO in this buyer's market. We could put together a deep, balanced roster that could easily sneak into the playoffs. Maybe get to the 2nd round. I'd rather go that route than take on bad contracts for picks. We need to get back to winning.

Ingram in Feb before he got hurt and then the org basically shut him down for the year...

18.6/5.6/5.2

20.1 PER
.621 TS
.59 EFG
122 ORtg

His 3 point shooting was a little inflated (52%) but I’ve said I think he’s capable of shooting in the high 30s. Had he shot 38%, it still would have been a fantastic month.

I don't see any of the top 8 getting worst next year so I say no. Also add in the Randle will probably sign with someone else.

I also don’t see any of the top 8, outside of Denver getting any better. Internal improvement will close the gap same as other teams declining.

But yeah, if we lose Randle while adding nothing, we’re not competing for a playoff spot. I just don’t think Pelinka plans to let Randle walk if we miss out on Lebron and PG.

If we miss out on LeBron and PG, Randle isn't going anywhere.

I vote no. Everything would have to break right, including health. And I just don't see it. Here's what we need to be a playoff team:

- Re-sign Randle
- Near perfect health
- Better depth on the back half of the roster
- Good backup PG (bye Tyler Ennis)
- Another veteran wing player who can shoot (Bradley, Ariza, Belinelli, Reddick, Barton, etc)
- Internal development among young players (Ball, Randle, Kuz, Ingram, Hart)

Doubtful. Those in front of us seem secure and we have less and less progress in front of us. That said, neither injuries nor seasons are predictable in any way. "Advanced metrics" are not reliable indicators. We could jump and continue to improve while someone in front of us falters or we could be the ones who falter.

No!

I'm not even sure we would get to 40 wins.

--hoping for perfect health is a pipe dream. The iron men of the world are the exceptions and not the norm. Injuries will happen.
--Wins attributed to internal development is often overstated since nearly most teams have internal development year over year.

We were 11th in the west... Not much of a reach to get to the playoffs as is... Ball get's a little better, Ingram continues to improve, Kuzma and Hart get better.... We keep Randle and he continues his progression...

Sure, we're a playoff team without a star... With one star, we're a solid second round threat... 2 and the right filler and we're a WCF contender...

One of the biggest holes is not having that alpha dog to go to work at the end of games to help us win the close ones.
We need that go to guy.
That may come from one of our own, but more likely than not, none of our current guys are ready to take over games at this stage.

Minus that guy, I don't think we make the playoffs but I think we'll be close.

It is very simple. Just re-sign Randle and Thomas and sign Tyreke Evans and Nerlens Noel.

If PG comes, that's the cherry on the cake.

If PG and Bron come, that's the icing on the cherry on the cake.
