Affects our space but to what amounts to probably an inconsequential difference

Assuming the Lakers are able to find a complete Deng dump to find the coveted George/LeBron/Randle FA route. There was around a bit over 2 mil they could've played with.
This is one way of using 700k of that, as that the difference between Zubac's contact and the minimum roster cap hold.
Now we'll see what they do with Bryant

Right, if LAL can pull of miracle and move Deng, it won't matter. On the other hand, if Deng must be stretched that 700K could come into play. Have to think Zubac is a good enough asset at that price that he would be included in a trade as others have mentioned.

Well, if Deng is stretched, to afford George, Randle needs to be renounced.
That would've given the Lakers roughly 5.5 million to play with instead of the 2.xx million mentioned above
that said, it's not the worst way to tie up cap. I just thought the Lakers could've thrown the whole 2.xx million to find a vet min player, before offering what would a 30k difference to Zubac in a new vet min contact. Guess they didn't want to do him dirty like that

Highly doubt anyone wants Zubac in a trade. Surprised we even re-upped.

He's more a filler in terms of trade talks. His contract could be nice to throw in a package to make money work

Unless Randle takes the QO, in which case there is enough. Increasingly, it seems like his options will be limited. It almost feels like he will be involved in a S&T to get Kawhi, but going to a third team. No idea who that would be though as it has been pretty tight lipped on that front. I saw a segment on top restricted FA and he wasn't even mentioned.

Hmm... i dont like this move.
I'd rather have waived Zubac and Bryant and taken my chances on them still being around after i fill up my cap. Waiving both would save 1.2m on the cap, and theyre making near league min, so i'd tell em after i'm done with FA i'll pick em up again.
By having Wagner already, gives me alot of flexbility in filling my backup or 3rd C role. Cuz i'd imagine the team would want to sign the best room exception C they can, thus pushing Wagner to backup and Zubac to 3rd string.
This move has negative implications imo in regards to FA. Every shred of cap is priceless atm.

I'm guessing the front office thinks Zubac would attract suitors, which is why they won't let him go

I agree. Remember he is still only 21 years old.

Never really been on the Ivicia Zubac hype train, but he has some decent post moves. I feel like he would've been good in the NBA 10 yrs ago, however, I hope that I'm wrong and he can provide some decent minutes off the bench.
