Re: Say Lakers Miss out on Big Names, What is their backup?
There is no backup... If we don't get a top tier FA or trade for a player like AD or KD, the LeBron experiment has basically failed... The rest of the guys out there are only marginally better than the guys we have...
Realistically, we need to add 2 more stars to this team to compete for a championship... But getting at least one huge star would be OK for now...
Talent wins championships...
That said, the one name that might make sense as a 'backup' is Boogie... If he's still and elite big, he might be a good fall-back option if all else fails... But other than that, we have to be all-in for the big names.

If we streak out in FA and A. Davis, the guy I really really want on the Lakers is Damian Lillard, I know he is as loyal to Portland as you can get but another dissapointing playoff run would make their FO to consider a trade, at least I hope.
I would offer Lonzo+Ingram+2019 first.

TylersLakers wrote:If nothing happens that brings on future salary until the off-season, we're sitting at $38M in cap space right now.
- Trade Ingram (7.3M), Hart (1.9M), 2020 1st rounder to Washington for Brad Beal (27.1M) = Still $20M remaining in cap space
- Re-sign Rondo, 2 year deal worth $5M a season = Still $15M remaining in cap space
- Sign Danny Green, 2 year deal worth $5M a season = Still $10M remaining in cap space
- Sign DeMarcus Cousins, 1 year deal worth $10M a season. A player option on Year 2. My expectation is he comes back, starts slowly, starts to look like 70-80% of old Cousins by the end of the year. Giving the player option on the 2nd year gets him to come.
- Sign Trevor Ariza, room exception.
- Sign McGee, Chandler, DeMarre Carroll to veteran minimum deals.
PG: Lonzo/Rondo/Bonga
SG: Beal/Green/Svi
SF: Kuzma/Ariza/(2019 1st)
PF: LeBron/Carroll/Wagner/
C: Cousins/McGee/Chandler
Green would be a great suggestion.
DeMarre Carroll : INTERESTING! ( 6'8", Free agent after this year with 10 years in. )
Would Ariza really consider coming? ( Id certainly welcome his work )
Beal is constantly within discussions but some think he isn't quite the fit.
McGee, Rondo, & Chandler need to be retained.
Ill pass on Cousins. I like our current chemistry.
My view here is does Luke properly use the talent given.
Ive mentioned it before.
How would Sloan, POP, Riley, Nelson, or even Stevens use our players.
Obviously all mentioned here have different styles.
Minus Cousins, I like your roster above.
Respect Elgin Baylor

I like the idea out Bradley Beal next to LeBron.

I'm not sure what will happen
But looking at Lebrons Age I would like to build a defensive team
So I go all in for Kawhi. That is the guy even if Lebron and him take some of the same positions.
I build around the torch from Lebron and the young guys and Kawahi.
I think Lebron is a passer and with Lonzo and Kawahi's defense these guys can make it work.

We are talking about missing everyone right?
Well, the back up will still be the young core. You hold on to them until Bron declines. That's how we will roll.

So do the anti-Laker fans on the GB. It's exactly what they want.
Why? Because trading for Beal would hurt the Lakers in two ways at once:
1) Beal added to this team would not make the Lakers title contenders.
2) It would utterly destroy their upcoming cap flexibility this summer.
Stephen A. Smith already tried trading Beal to the Lakers. He failed.
Anti-Laker fans on the GB have been trying to trade Beal to the Lakers for months. They keep failing.
They know what's really coming, and it isn't Bradley Beal. And that scares them. Beal to the Lakers is a meme at this point.

Willie Cauley Stein would be a nice add. Great fit with the current roster.

Re: Say Lakers Miss out on Big Names, What is their backup?
Two things: We need 1 All Star not two & the LBJ experiment is a 100% success, so STFU about what LBJ has down for the Lakeshow... He has made us a playoff team by himself... How is Cleveland doing with the same roster as last year... RESPECT...
In terms of the next All Star, I think it will be a player under contract from a team that decides to rebuild or a disgruntled All Star... If we strike out like we did a couple years ago, I would not be opposed to signing WCS but I don’t like Cousins as he doesn’t protect the basket...
Give LBJ Respect... Lakeshow Baby...

Magic and Rob will settle for the second or third-tier players (or manna from heaven) who are willing to pay with Lebron. They will also sell the young core for the best available veterans. These donkeys are clearly going all-in on an aging superstar, so desperately thirsty.
Well they finally caught their big fish, now they have to lie in it.

Re: Say Lakers Miss out on Big Names, What is their backup?
The way Ingram has been playing lately, I can't help but wonder if they will let him walk next offseason...buying us another year to sign a max-player. Bringing our window up from just this summer, to next summer as well. If Ingram clicks, then we just roll with the core we have.
I don't actually think it's out of the realm of possibility that we miss this summer on catching anything. It happens. I don't see that as some epic failure. We have some good youth....we should be a playoff team. You go down the list of obvious things: We're the most storied franchise in the NBA. We have the largest fan-base. It's LA...and all that that offers. There will be a great FA in the next few years that will happily sign with us. There's plenty of other teams that have to worry about this issue before we do.
We haven't even made the playoffs.....and we're worried about if we're gonna build the future 3-peat dynasty we're apparently entitled to as Laker fans.
You do remember we just played the Warriors on Christmas day, right? Think back the last couple years.....let that sink in. Magic's done his job. Don't worry about that. We'll get someone in the next couple years.

I'd love a Kemba addition to approximate what Kyrie did to complement Lebron. This doesn't mean Lonzo wouldn't have a place on the team. His playmaking, rebounding and defense would still be valuable. He'd just face more pressure to become an offball scoring threat.

If we don’t land a big name it’s simple, trade for one. It would be absolutely insane to waste three years of Lebron when Golden State is showing cracks in their team.

Jesus no. We didn’t learn our lesson from Randle? If Ingram isn’t in the long term plan then trade him, even if it’s for only a first round pick.

Are we even gonna get a first-rounder for him? Maybe a lower-half guy. I'd be curious to see what the interest for him is these days, when you factor a $9ish salary, and what people can spend. You'd think keeping your own pick, and having the salary under wraps for 3-4 years would be a major factor.
Sad to be thinking this way. I really thought Ingram had the goods. I hope he figures something out, and gets back on track, as I think he could be a really good player. But he's beyond lost out there.
