Shams: Lakers application to exclude Luol Deng’s salary from team salary books denied by NBA
Not surprised, but would have been nice.
Mitch still haunting us from beyond the grave.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;

Bring him back as a towel or water boy. Make him earn that money.

Doesn't it feel like 10 years ago that we signed he and Mozgov???
That was "THE PLAN". I'll give that a minute to sink in. Mozgov and Deng.....the plan. Yikes. So glad Jim got tossed.

Honestly, i think it was mostly Mitch Cupcake's brilliant idea to sign those 2 scrubs. I mean seeing the moves Mitch is making in CHA, it's pretty damn clear where such "brilliant" ideas originated from.
Lil Jimmy's problem was that he wasnt smart enough to tell Cupcake he was a dumbass and fire his ass for even suggesting those signings.
Also **** the NBA for forcing us to keep that scrub on our salary cap. The bum is the freaking Sudan national team head coach, shoulda let us purge his ass off of our cap starting next off-season.

Well we endured the aftermath of the dumb Nash trade. We can wait a couple of years for this contract to come off the books.

Truly one of the most brutal mistakes. I want to give the FO a bit of a break because of the "what if" factor. Nash and Dwight could have been a true wrecking machine with the p&r.
Problem 1: and this is a two part-er here. We watched Nash at the end of the last season sitting on the sideline with his towel rolled up (as was becoming the norm) and they stopped the game with about 90 seconds left and brought him in so (and this is key) the crowd could cheer and SAY GOODBYE to their beloved Nash!!! Why on God's green Earth did we just toss away 3 first round picks to Phoenix when they were clearly not resigning him? Never got that. I get Nash wanted to gift Phoenix a parting present. So fine...a 2nd-rounder and one of last years rookies. 3 first rounders??? Sheesh. And for a guy who you were soooooo clearly rolling the dice on, health-wise. For the record....Nash had to intentionally foul like 40 seconds later to come out, as he was about to collapse out there.
Problem 2: Who thought Kobe was gonna let Nash control the ball? Who thought Nash would be anything but D-Fish? Nothing but love for KB, but you gotta know who your dealing with. Kobe was Kobe. For better, or for worse. Fans can go nuts, and play the 'what if' game all they want....but B-Ball execs are making 7 (sometimes 8!) figure salaries not to fall for that crap. Kobe tried to fool himself. I remember an interview where he essentially said "I haven't given up the ball because I haven't played along side a guy of Nash's caliber". Paraphrase....but close enough. Mitch shoulda seen right through that.
Dunno.....absolutely a brutal deal. But at least it came with this "dream" scenario. What was the 'dream' with Deng and Mozgov?? Unless you were sitting there thinking "Hey.....maybe they will turn into someone else", I'm not sure where you were going with those two? Moz averaged like 6 points an 4 rebounds the year before. I think he ended his career with only one season of double-digit points (and it was BARELY....like 10.2 points). I mean, it was absolutely stupid, and irresponsible. Some slight hope for Deng...but it was more like "Hey...maybe he can give a solid 14 and 6 each game, and teach the young guys". <--- dreamin big
