Possibility of Marc not coming back

Post#1 » by IgorK » Fri Aug 20, 2021 10:42 pm

I'm not sure what to make of this. I thought Marc's contract is guaranteed this year? Wouldn't he have to retire or forfeit his salary to not come back?

If he doesn't come back, we only have Dwight as a legitimate center. I don't consider AD to be an option because he is allergic to playing the position.

Lakers absolutely have to try keep Marc if they can.

Aaron Baynes, Biyambo, Cousins, Ed Davis, Harry Giles, Daniel Theis are still unsigned according to NBA.com. So we do have some options if he decided that he wanna leave. Hopefully he can make up his mind soon.

I've been saying this before, we need another big because Marc and Dwight are old plus AD is injury prone. With this Marc situation another big is a MUST.

I wouldn't mind Aaron Baynes, he's had a tough time in Toronto but otherwise he was turning into a very productive center in Phoenix.

Baynes was injured at the Olympics and reportedly might miss all of the 21-22 season.

Davis played well with other teams, but I can't get over how crappy he was with us on much younger legs...

No real interest in revisiting the Cousins thing... He and Howard bring basically the same things now.

I would want to see the Lakers retain marc and sign one of those guys. Of course, with Marc (possibly), Dwight, and AD expecting minutes I'm not sure if we are the most attractive minimum contract betting on self type of destination right now at the 5. I would love Theis. He would bring an element to this team that we desperately need, and I would hope that he's the top target if Marc is out of the picture.

Theis signed with Houston.

ah I should have known that. Well then no one else really excites me there. Biyombo could be a guy who could thrive in this limited role after a change of scenery I suppost. No interest in Cousins or Ed Davis. Don't know enough about Giles, and Baynes seems to be done. ( would have been a solid fit if healthy)

What is wrong with this kid? How come he is still available? He looks nimble and athletic at 6-10.

I'm confident Marc does indeed return but we really should sign Giles.

Thomas Bryant has already been a Laker but he was there before Lebron ,IIRC.

Seems to me the Wizards have a lot of young pieces and the Lakers have a lot of old guys. Besides your big 4 seems to me there's probably a very good trade in there somewhere
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

While I totally agree with you about what they bring to the table....I think it might behoove us to have numbers. Even with Marc, your still looking awfully thin there. Marc, Dwight, and AD (which I'd rather not have him down there too much during the regular season..just enough to keep him in rhythm)

Like others have pointed out, I think Melo plays some Small Ball 5 too... And we still have Cacok...

I'd be happy if we added another, but I'm not sure we really need to... We can keep a spot open, see how our health goes, and add someone or trade for someone at the deadline too... If we're healthy at the signing deadline, heading into the playoffs, another big won't sniff the court. If one of them is injured, we'll have the flexibility to address it later.
