No it's not........you can't just assume MD is running exactly everything he did previously. He has different weapons here and it's obvious what style suits them. Mike has to figure it out.

Yeah... me too... He was my #5 candidate...

The best four things I can say about D'Antoni

1) He's well-liked and respected by Nash and Kobe
2) We won't have to go through a few months of learning the Triangle, where inevitably Kobe gets impatient and builds bad habits of manipulating sets to get touches and keep November/December/January games close: the same bad habits that cost us Game 1 and 4 in 2012 vs OKC.
3) We should run more. It'll be fun to watch, especially with our bench, D12, and Kobe.
4) He will build our bench and has experience dealing with a high usage low minutes PG. He also, with Nash, grooms PGs very well.

Now the bad:
1) Spacing: Meeks and Nash are our only two good 3 pt shooters. Kobe/MWP/Blake/DMo/Jamison are mid 30s at best. See the Shaq years to see that abomination.
2) Defense: Well, at least we'll score a lot. It's a shame to waste Kobe/MWP/Hill/D12 though...
3) Gravitas: No rings. More a SVG/Brown-esque rah-rah/panic guy than a PJax/Popp type of patience, big picture, and confidence-inspiring
4) Inflexible: It's SSOL. That's it. It's great when it works. It's terrible when it doesn't. His best bullet point on his resume is arguably that brief period of Linsanity. The fact that NYK still thrives from the three point threats they collected that enabled that period speaks to the importance of 3-pt shooting to make it work.
5) Loose gun mentality: We have Kobe. He's high-USG. While Nash is on the floor, no bigs. But when Nash is off... and the coach gives everyone the greenlight? Oh God. (Kobe respects Nash to dribble drive/probe. You really think he's going to let DMorris/Blake/Duhon handle the ball instead of himself?)

of course i wanted Phil because he is Phil, but i'm actually glad it is pringles. it takes to long to execute the triangle properly and it doesn't take much to run and gun.

Lastly it's been reported that he want's to bring on a defensive type of coach as an assistant. He should ask McMillan if he wants the job.

What he might do with the bench is put Duhon-Morris together, add Pietrus then flip Jamison-Hill with the starting big men.

Exactly, hell the Suns were NEVER built to defend anyway. We have guys here who can defend just on instinct alone. The Suns only had 2 cut throat defenders.....Marion and Bell. Amare could've be a hell of a defender, he chose not to.

D'Antoni is horrible. Every Knicks fan is laughing their ass off right now. The offense will actually look worse now unless Nash dominates the ball and he adds NOTHING to the defense.

Trust me, as a Knick fan I know what I'm talking about as I've watched almost all Knick games of the past 2 decades. The reason the Knicks improved on defense were due to D'Antoni being forced to add Woodson as a defensive assistant to his staff and the Knicks signing Tyson Chandler and drafting Shumpert.
In his first 3 seasons in NY the Knicks were always among the worst defensive teams in the league.

We'd lose 120-115 and D'Antoni would say in the post game conference: "we lost because we didn't make enough shots"....yes ,he's that obvlivious to defense.

In his first 3 years with the Knicks he didn't have a defensive assistant coach. Let that sink in. His offensive consists of letting his pg dominate the ball and shoot in 7 seconds or less. He was exposed in ny untill lin came in.

We have way better defenders than the Knicks and Suns. We also dont have a black hole in melo. If this was 2000 I woulld be saying otherwise.
