I see the two bozos Pelinka and Magic haven't put out a statement supporting Luke yet? Ignoring and hoping Lavar goes away seems to be the strategy right now.

That's sickening. These reporters better nut up and stand together if that's the case.

The idea of Magic telling he Lavar he loses his family access at Lakers games is sound in logic but you never know how Lonzo might feel about it.

What was Luke's record when he coached great players in GSW? And no, Lavar, you couldn't have coached them to that many wins.

It's not Luke. This season is about making improvements on the floor, teach this young team how to win next season. It's like an extended training camp the way I see it.

He is about what is best for Lavar. His sons are tool to get him his fame.

As they should. Why should they be acknowledging fans? Lavar has 0 stake in the Lakers. They shouldn't give his comments validity by putting out statements. Treat him like a super fan and move on. His opinion is no different than half of the Lakers board lol.

The coaches are doing this out of self-interest. They're afraid LaVar is setting a precedent that undermines their authority and probably more importantly, tenuous job security.

But it's futile and could backfire as being petty. You can't shut up anybody in this digital, social media age.

It's a brave new world. It's not about being right, it's about being loud.

This is the biggest threat to our current societal fabric.

You got to admire Stan Van Gundy though. Those Van Gundy brothers are straight up righteous, brother.

Luke Walton is a terrific young coach who is bringing along a young team and it’s a difficult task. If you don’t believe it, just ask me. We’re going through it now, we’ve been through it last year.

"ESPN is an NBA partner, and they’ve been a great one. Part of that partnership. ... the coaches do a lot of things to help them with access, interviews and all those kinds of things. In exchange for that, they should back up the coaches. Printing an article where the father of an NBA player has an opinion that is printed as anything like legitimate erodes trust. It erodes the trust we’ve built with ESPN, and our coaches are upset.

"Luke Walton does not deserve that. Two years ago, he took a veteran team and led them to 24 wins in a row, which is an amazing accomplishment. He earned the Laker job. To have to deal with these ignorant distractions is deplorable."

-- Rick Carlisle

Sad that others are forced to state the obvious. He's 100% right, it's pathetic that ESPN has given Lavar the platform to criticize a head coach and made it into a national story.

I don't blame ESPN. It's not their job to censor anyone. Rather, I appreciate Carlisle calling out LaVar for being a jackass, per usual.

There's a difference between censoring someone and just not running stories and quotes every time this guy makes an outlandish statement. Brandon Ingram's aunt could be spouting off right now, no one is putting her quotes up. That being said, I don't blame ESPN either in that other media outlets are going to give him headlines anyway.

I feel like regardless of what Lavar says and who publishes it, it's just some dad spouting off and easy for the team to just publicly dismiss as totally irrelevant to the actual basketball team. I'm sure it's annoying to be asked about Lavar's latest comments, but beyond that what influence or effect can he possibly have on an actual NBA franchise?

This is basically fake news... But I'm not really impressed with how the FO has dealt with it... I agree that Rob and more importantly Magic need to get out in front of this... That's essentially what Magic and his enormous personality are here for. A simple smile and one line statement about how Luke's his guy and he's happy with the job he's doing, would essentially put this story to rest.

Not his hire, so i'm hardly surprised. I am afraid of who Magic would hire has a head coach though. He was already so adamant about Byron coaching this team.

Censor wasn't the best choice of words. Rather, through his relentless self-promotion, Lavar has built himself a notable public platform, even before his son was drafted by one of the most prominent sports franchises in the country. It sucks, because there's zero substance to it, but there it is. Just like Trump, some people really respond to this kind of buffoonery.

As such, it's not ESPN's job to ignore that. Just like as I noted earlier, CNN wouldn't ignore Ann Coulter if she had some outlandish nonsense to say about, say, Barack Obama.

And yeah, I agree, the Lakers' best course of action is just to ignore it. Pull Luke aside privately, tell him they've got his back, and to ignore Lavar's nonsense, and avoid escalating it any further. (Banning Lavar from the arena would be ridiculous.) I just hate the fact that we're going to have to deal with this idiot's nonsense for the foreseeable future. It's so, so, so stupid.

I still laugh (maybe cringe is more accurate) when I remember the dog and pony show when they hired Scott, trotting out the Laker legends and waxing nostalgically about the Laker way.

Magic and Isaiah Thomas are friends again. If Zeke wants to coach I wonder if Magic would consider hiring him to coach the Lakers.
