I'm also glad that the time they are a changin and that I'm a big mean looking mofo.. we get racist comments from passing cars once in a while, but not even the biggest skins will say ish to my face. I can imagine how hard being a mixed couple would have been 20-30-40 years ago.

Well, that's how women are raised in South Asia/Middle East. For as long as I remember, I've been doing all the housework and cooking. My two brothers don't do anything unless me or my mom ask them to.

I'd be surprised to hear that happens much in California. I get strange looks when I'm with a white girl but mostly benign and the fact that I live in a metro helps a bit. I'd probably not hear the end of it in rural midwest.

Where I grew up was an incredibly racist and prejudice area, although it is improving, it's been rough. Personally though, I was raised right by my mom .

My vocabulary probably didn't help much though when I came to the US, we are raised on British English and we say cabbage for lettuce, cover for a plastic bag and bill for a restaurant cheque. So that kind of got me strange looks for a good 4 month period.

People might look at me strangely for my accent and vocab now if I go to England or India.

Yeah they do but they rarely see Lettuce there so we kind of imagine it to be cabbage when we see it first.

we get a surprising amount slurs yelled at us, though black guys in clubs are the worst because I have robbed them of a Jada Pinkett clone. My wife doesn't see herself as black, though she looks it, because she's Apache, Black, and Mexican. One of my friends is dating a very burly white pride guy, and he's surprisingly tolerant to our face, but I get the feeling if I didn't have 2 inches on him he'd be different.

Cabbage gives me farts... so definitely different than lettuce. I personally am a spinach guy.

I prefer spinach for salads and on a lot of sammiches. Darker and colorful lettuces (don't know the names, but not iceberg) are preferred before iceberg lettuce as well.
