MLE for the same Mo Wagner we paid to giveaway and was waived by the Celtics a couple months ago?
Yeah, I get why you would question that signing. He would be kind of an out of bo where tqype of signing. My point is, teh market for free agent stretch 5s is limited and Wagner was already on our team and is still young. And we had to dump him in order to get AD, I don't think we dumped him because we didn't want him.

It was to have a chance at Kawhi as we were getting AD anyway, but still basically a giveaway of his spot. And he was a midseason release this past year, so doesn’t appear coveted at the least.

yeah but lakers need to get back to the jerry west mentality and the way in which they had foresight and didn't make the obvious move. Aquire players when their value is low instead of high, buy low and sell high.

Kuzma and Pope for Hield is solid.
Kuzma for Gordon is also solid.
Kuzma for Beasley is a winner as well.
I'd also do Kuzma for Rose.

KCP is a great defender. Track records suggested that he more than often start slow coming in the season and play better in the second half. This season is a special one with all agendas disrupted with the offseason shortened and condensed schedule.

While they are only role players instead of stars, it is normal that they did not step up in the playoffs when AD was down. If they step up every time, they are all star players.

I don't see a need of a full overhaul for the Lakers. Keeping core role players is key to continuous success at this stage. Deal with that schroder free agency smart and sign players fitting Vogel's preference and AD is Key

KCP is a good player and someone I value a lot on this team. Our best 3 and D player. I wouldn't trade him unless it's a package for a clear upgrade.

Kuzma showed a willingness to try to accommodate whatever role we need from him but his fit still isn't ideal. I think his value to another team would be higher and if AD wasn't here he would look a lot better with Bron feeding him the ball. I'm not opposed to keeping Kuz but his salary/age/fit makes him one of our few trade assets.

Just wondering, is there a way we can acquire both Demar (w/o Demar taking a significant pay-cut) and Lowry?

Gasol ($2.7 mil), Kuzma ($13 mil) + 22 pick ($2 mil) for Demar ($20 mil) (does this count as a sign-and-trade even though the Lakers don't technically sign a player)

Dennis ($18 mil), THT ($8 mil), 2nd Round Pick for Lowry ($25 mil)

Will one of these deals have to be done at the deadline?

I’d imagine it would be the exact opposite for what these guys were looking for: DeRozan 25 mil, Lowry 20 mil.

The easiest path would be for Harrell to opt in.

Kuzma + Harrell + pick for DeRozan ($25 mil)
Dennis ($18 mil) sign and trade + pick for Lowry (20 mil)
Numbers rule the universe.

That's a good team but just with those 4 players (LBJ at $41 million, AD at $35 million, Demar at $25 million, and Lowry at $20 million) , we'd have over $120 million in salaries and would be nearly impossible to fill out the rest of the roster with valuable pieces.

You’d still have KCP and Gasol. Also, you could do the sign and trade after re-signing Caruso and THT so as to not hard cap you. The issues would be Harrell opting in, and Dennis and the Raptors having mutual interest.

You're right, I can see DeRozan getting more than $20 mil since he's still only 31 years old. The reports were previously that Lowry was looking for a 2 year $50 mil deal which is why I put him at $25 mil though.

That would be a very talented team if somehow we could make it worthwhile for all teams.

The team needs a scorer, but that scorer needs to be able to knock down spot up jumpshots.

This is where money should be spent first.

DeRozan doesn't qualify.

For fit, I'd rather have Lou Williams than DeRozan (even though DeRozan is a superior overall player).

It's obviously far from ideal, but I'd wager that the Laker front office is predicting that Schroeder and Harrell will walk for nothing and Kuzma is traded for a third scorer/shooter.

Lou Williams, Hield, Eric Gordon, Malik Beasley, or Derrick Rose for Kuzma (minus Harrell and Schroder) would do wonders for on court chemistry.

I agree. Can't think of a much worst fit than DDR. I would try my best to get Hield.

As far as elite shooters go, Hield, Eric Gordon, and Beasley all seem to be available.

The question is: Which one can be had for Kuzma?

it would cost more than just kuzma. I would go kuzma, kcp, #22, and 2027 1st for hield. Is Beasly available?

A sign and trade where we acquire someone is nearly impossible considering our cap situation. We'd most likely have to trade Kuzma and KCP and Lowry and DeRozan would need to take discounts.

LeBron: 41.2M
AD: 35.4M
Deng: 5.0M

Total: Around $81.6M

You could trade Kuzma, Gasol to Spurs for DeRozan: $15M sign and trade -- You would do this after San Antonio uses their cap space
You could trade THT (sign and trade, 15M a season), future 2nd to Raptors for Lowry: $15M sign and trade. -- You would do this after the moratorium of course and after the Raptors spend their cap space.

You add:

Lowry: $15M
DeRozan: $15M
KCP: $13.1M

= $124.7M

1st round pick: About $2M
Re-signed Alex Caruso, $10M

= $136.7M and 7 players under contract (Caruso, 1st round pick, KCP, DeRozan, Lowry, AD, LeBron)

I believe the hard cap is around $145M next season. I can't find the exact number. So we would have $8.3M to fill the remaining 8 roster spots. We would either have to trade KCP to another team for 2-3 players that match his salary in a trade (a downgrade) or fill in as many roster spots as we can with vet minimum guys until mid-season, when we could sign a buyout guy or two with their prorated salary - about $600K as Drummond was.

Other than that, convince Lowry and DeRozan to take less. If they each take $5M less and their salaries are $10M a season, that gives the Lakers an addition $10M to play with - certainly opening up their tax-payer MLE to use ($5.8M) - If they did that, you have more flexibility to keep KCP, and add a few players with that tax-payer MLE. So you could be looking at a roster of:

LeBron: $41.2
AD: $35.4
KCP: $13.1
Caruso: $10.0M
Lowry: $10.0M
DeRozan: 10.0M
Nerlens Noel: $5.8M
Trey Murphy: $2.0M (1st rounder)
Morris: $2.5 (Re-sign)
Melo: $2.5 (Vet min)
Dieng: $2.5 (Vet min)
Wes Matthews $2.5 (vet min)
Austin Rivers: $2.5 (vet min)

(Deng 5.0)

That puts us at $145M on the dot. So you can see how tight this is going to get depending on what the hard cap number is. If Lowry and DeRozan want to come, sacrifices will need to be made financially and we're going to have to let pieces walk out the door. We're also going to kill our flexibility around the margins and have to hope a roster 11-13 guys plus a couple 2-way contracts can get us through the year.

Who do you prefer....buddy hield and delon wright OR brogdon and justin holiday? For kcp, kuzma, and gasol (or harrell, if he opts in)

I think y'all tripping on DDR. He is needed on any team, even if he comes off the bench. Cp3 is so effective with out shooting 3s. DDR Passes effectively, gets to the basket, plays tough, rebounds, has good defense, and is mentally strong.

He is from LA, he can help bring in lowry (otherwise we don't have a chance on getting him), huge Kobe fan, and respects LeBron.

Kuz and mckinnie gets it done for DDR... I'd sign him for 4/72... Or 5/90. I believe he will give us that home town discount

Lowry for kcp and gasol (who helped them get a ring) is perfect for both teams.... 2/40... With player option.

Sign melo, dwight, mcgee, rivers, tht, and caruso.

Honestly, in a hypothetical where the Lakers got DeRozan, I’d actually prefer a guy like Caruso starting next to him over Lowry, when you already also have Lebron. You’d absolutely HAVE to get a stretch 5 with Lebron and DeRozan though. Or, if you convince AD to move to the 5 and move Lebron to the 4, you’d need a reliable spot up shooter at the 3.

Brogdon is the best player of those 4 but I do slightly worry about his injury history, so I would say Buddy and Wright.

I agree.... I got brogdon, hield, wright, holiday.. respectively

Brogdon is the perfect fit... With great percentages.

kcp, gasol for brogdon

Kuz and mckinnie for DDR

Trade schroder for Eric gordon.

Brogdon/gordon/DDR/lebron/AD!!!
